Let's get to Washington! The DC weather forecast for January 6th is good and rooms are still available.

There are still hotel/motel rooms available in the Washington area for the nights of January 5th and 6th. I had no reservation before this morning and just made one for Vienna, Virginia. That Courtyard by Marriott is only a four-minute walk to the Dunn Loring Fairfax Metro station for the Orange Line subway trains.

The latest weather forecast has the high for January 6th at 45F and the low will be 31. It is expected to be "mostly sunny".

When more of the schedule of events is established we Freepers may chose a place to meet. After the main festivities perhaps we can get together by the north side of the Air and Space Museum which is only three and a half short blocks from the Capitol Reflecting Pool.

I highly recommend Mount Vernon. I have been there three times now and I plan to go again in my lifetime.

I think I get more out of it than most because I have dozens of books about Washington on my shelves and know all about his life there. So when I go to his place, I can mentally picture all the famous historical figures who visited him there as well as him riding around the grounds on his horse and inspecting all his crops, distilleries, etc.

A peaceful demonstration will not matter to the Marxist tyrants. They will mock us and proceed on their merry ways. Only an armed revolution at this time will make a difference.

I understand the mayor has closed the restaurants?

If she does and you're determined to eat in a restaurant, you might find one open in a Federal building over which she would have no authority. The House and Senate cafeterias serve excellent food.

DC with its Maryland side, and Virginia side suburbs have 3.7 gazillion rooms. Plus a lot of folks will be coming in on the C&O Canal towpath just for the day.

I attended the huge 9/12 Tea Party rally in DC about 10 years ago. It was a great moment. I hope this one is even better.

“...peaceful demonstration will not matter...only an armed revolution...”

Before we go there and throw up barricades it is best to go and reconnoiter the area and plan. Come on along.

But which place is safer and has better food?

Although I don't know Dumfries, but I would choose Vienna because of Anita's, a New Mexico-style Mexican restaurant that serves the best Mexican food in the DC area. The family owns the Little Anita's restaurant chain in New Mexico.

For those attending the rally, be aware of the following:

1. Food service & restaurants in downtown DC will be limited or nonexistent. Bring your own food/snacks + bottled water in a backpack.

2. Wear comfortable shoes, you may need to walk 3 or 4 miles to get to the main events area.

3. Restrooms could get iffy. Bring a box of tissues along. Use a restrooms finder app to locate possible places BEFORE you enter the city. Take WebMD’s advice and “keep a few tablets of Imodium (it comes in liquid form, too) with you at all times. A good rule: Take it 20 minutes before you go somewhere you may face a problem.”

4. Cell phone service may be inaccessible due to high usage on 1/6 -- have an agreed-upon rendezvous location & time where you will all meet if you're coming with a group, for the return trip.

5. Print out a street map of DC & a map of DC metro (subway system), and have them with you. You may need to "detour" around areas, if the police cut off certain roads & public areas.

6. If you are parking outside DC (in Maryland) and taking the subway into the city, I've heard that it's best to buy a metro pass BEFORE going. Not sure of the website, but search online for Washington DC metro. 1/6 will be a "normal" workday in DC, so subways should be open. Avoid the Green Line, since it goes into rough neighborhoods.

7. STAY WITH OF PEOPLE YOU KNOW, and don't become separated or alone. Congress could debate late into the evening, but still it's best to leave the city before dark (before 5 pm). Anything is possible, some speculate ANTIFA could sabotage bridges, subways, etc - and MAGA folks could be stranded for 1 - 2 days in DC.

Prepare for anything - staying together with your Group is the best plan!

For those going there - fully expect and properly prepare for violence perpetrated by BLM/Antifa. They are not going to let this go by unchallenged. Be especially alert after the rally! They like to cull off older patriots and women/children and gang up on them for violence on their way back to cars/rooms, etc. Stay in strong groups and be ready to defend yourselves.

There is no 2024. There is only the here and Now!

Yep, better enjoy the right to assemble and what’s left of our free speech while we still have it. Once the Dems get in power they and their allies in the media will see to it that any resistance is squashed. And that will soon include restrictions on conservative web sites.

John F. Kennedy officially proposed to Jackie at Martin’s Tavern at the corner of Wisconsin and N Street

Richard Nixon was also a regular there. When I ate there in 2019, I wanted to sit in his booth, but someone had already reserved it.

Pop a couple Imodium AD before you head out. Eliminates the need

Thank you for the recommendations. Yes, be prepared to walk and remember that the Virginia side of the river is not all that much of a hike form the DC Mall (for those who are in fair walking shape). DC will have something of the feel of Cold WAR Moscow I’m thinking.

Good idea, I bet it is a lot easier to get the Nixon table than the Kennedy table. I’ll have to try it if Georgetown returns to something close to sanity.

I was at a tea party rally a few years ago. The Metro was certainly slowed down. It took hours just to get on the train.

Consider using Spothero.com to reserve and prepay your parking.

We booked ours a week ago.

I only live an hour away. I’m debating how early to leave. Thinking about trying to arrive around 7

I wouldn’t look too much at room rental availability. A GOP game has up from Michigan is taking two buses. They are traveling Tuesday night, doin the rally and heading home.

My area from Maryland had trouble filling one bus for the March for Trump last month. They are working on bus NINE right now.

I plan on catching the Metro on the Silver Line at the Spring Hill station in Vienna, VAA.

I'm assuming it's far enough down the line to guarantee a spot on the train for the ride in. If any locals have other ideas, I would appreciate the advice. Reason for choosing that stop is that my company has a branch office in a nearby office park with tons of available parking. The Spring Hill station is just a short walk away.

Not so much worried about the trip back. I just want to get there on time and not miss anything.
