COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio death row inmate who survived an attempt to execute him by lethal injection in 2009 died Monday of possible complications of COVID-19, the state prisons system said.
At the time of the 2009 procedure, condemned prisoner Romell Broom was only the second inmate nationally to survive an execution after they began in modern times.
Broom, 64, has been placed on the "COVID probable list" maintained by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, spokesperson Sara French said Tuesday. Inmates on that list are suspected to have died of COVID-19, pending a death certificate, she said.

I have a solution for that.....
I would have done the job for free.
No hurry needed in this case-I would take my sweet time inserting an IV into a convicted and condemned child rapist and murderer.
Rope is good, too.
Half an hour? Hell, I’ve heard of people only taking a few breaths of pure nitrogen and “ZOT” they’re gone.
I’d prefer they used ammonia. but that’s me . . .
I understand, and understand the sentiment. I just want to remove all the bogus objections that surround the whole death penalty thing. All you need is an airtight room with a one-way valve for the atmosphere. The condemned can be placed in the room, then you dump in nitrogen until the room no longer has oxygen in it. Because nitrogen doesn't trigger a suffocation reflex, the criminal won't even know he's dead. After half an hour, you pump the room with standard atmosphere. Much better than the rather barbaric 'gas chambers' they had back in the day, as there are no actual toxins involved in the entire operation. All you need inside is an O2 monitor to validate that it's safe to enter the room. It gets around all of the 'cruel and unusual' punishment bullshit, and just about any other objections, unless someone just simply doesn't believe the state should have the right to take a life.
Given the quality of 'justice' that obtains in this country these days, I must say that I lean at least somewhat in that direction. However, if it's going to be done, it should be clean and quick, which suffocation in a nitrogen atmosphere is. It's well known in industrial settings were you can have lethal concentrations of N2 that you can be standing in such a room, and you just drop dead without even knowing that you are dying if you aren't removed from the area quickly enough.
It's not actually that quick. The problem is, that in an essentially pure nitrogen environment, you simply do not know that you're not getting oxygen, because it is CO2 that triggers the feeling of suffocation. 30 minutes is just a "to be absolutely sure" number. Probably wouldn't need 10. I can hold my breath (with preparation) for 4 minutes, but there is no way I could do so for 10. No one could manage a half hour
Just shoot ‘em.
Take a device similar to a Xicar (brand) cigar cutter with a hole big enough to admit a human head. Build it with opposing crescent-shaped ceramic blades and power it with hydraulic pressure, provided through a foot pump.
Pump it to operating pressure and let 'er rip! Slices off the crim's head in a millisecond and, best of all, there's zero greenhouse gas emissions and it's completely renewable. So you'd be saving society and the environment.
