House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that House Democrats would vote Monday on a standalone bill that would provide direct payments to Americans of $2,000 a person.
Pelosi, D-Calif., made the announcement moments after House Republicans blocked a Democratic bid to increase the payments as passed in the stimulus bill earlier this week from $600 a person to $2,000.
"On Monday, I will bring the House back to session, where we will hold a recorded vote on our stand-alone bill to increase economic impact payments to $2,000. To vote against this bill is to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny them the relief they need," Pelosi said in a statement Thursday morning.
Hopefully, by then the president will have already signed the bipartisan and bicameral legislation to keep government open and to deliver coronavirus relief," she said.
The House is adjourned until Monday afternoon, when members will also vote on whether to override President Donald Trump's veto of the annual defense authorization bill.

Um, Nancy — You are to change the existing bill, not increase its total cost in any way and move money in it from foreign entities first, then from its pork, to fund the additional Covid relief for citizens.
But, China-loving Pelosi isn’t gonna do that. This stand-alone bill be be additional to the existing bill. Any bets?

Wrong. The GOP blocked Pelosi’s request for unanimous consent to and expanding the overall covid bill by adding $1400 to the $600 stimulus check
Tomorrow’s vote will be roll call on only a larger ($2 k) stimulus check - and not on the overall covid bill, if Nancy is to be believed. Trump is calling for that $2 k so I hope Republicans vote for it.
They better read the fuzzy fine print in her standalone bill the queen of pork has no limits.
Is the hundreds of billions of pork still in this bill? If so Republicans in the senate should kill and Trump needs to veto it if it gets to him.
This is good news. Pelosi is basically giving into Trump’s demands for a real stimulus bill without all the pork.

Only temporarily. The fool/eaters and their money will soon part ways and the market will return the money to the producers. The poor will be poor again. The rich will be richer.
The if you don’t like this you’ll like what comes next even less as an arm twisting tactic is something I’ve long wished gutless Republicans in Congress would have been doing rather than getting along with the so-called “progressives”.
