After permit approved for whites-only church, small Minnesota town insists it isn't racist

When the church doors open, only white people will be allowed inside.

That’s the message the Asatru Folk Assembly in Murdock, Minnesota, is sending after being granted a conditional use permit to open a church there and practice its pre-Christian religion that originated in northern Europe.

Despite a council vote officially approving the permit this month, residents are pushing back against the decision.

“I think they thought they could fly under the radar in a small town like this, but we’d like to keep the pressure on them,” said Peter Kennedy, a longtime Murdock resident. “Racism is not welcome here."

The Southern Poverty Law Center describes Asatru Folk Assembly as a “neo-Volkisch hate group” that couches “their bigotry in baseless claims of bloodlines grounding the superiority of one’s white identity.”

“We’re not. It’s just simply not true," said Allen Turnage, a folk assembly board member. "Just because we respect our own culture, that doesn’t mean we are denigrating someone else’s."

The group, based in Brownsville, California, says teachings and membership are for those of strictly European bloodlines.

Their forefathers, according to the website, were "Angels and Saxons, Lombards and Heruli, Goths and Vikings, and, as sons and daughters of these people, they are united by ties of blood and culture undimmed by centuries."

“We respect the ways our ancestors viewed the world and approached the universe a thousand years ago,” Turnage said.

A small contingent of church supporters in Murdock said the community should be open-minded and respectful to all.

You haven’t heard of all those crackers being prohibited from attending Louie Farrakhan’s services?

Once you say “I’m not racist” then you have accepted the left’s framework of the debate.

European bloodlines and white culture are not racist, they just exist.

The same can be said for African bloodlines and black culture or any other you care to choose.

The false narrative against white culture is what is racist. I know longer consider the commentary of privilege as legitimate as the insults and attacks show themselves as being against our culture, our morals, our own way of living.

If one desires to live amongst a black culture then do so. But to lay those morals, ethics, and culture upon the rest is racist envy and covertness.

With black families building a blacks only town Freedom, GA, I don’t see a problem with this. Anyone want to guess the chances of it being burned down?

I could go on and on about exclusively black organizations, businesses etc. etc. Until the double standard is corrected White folks are on the weak end of the leverage.

Always thought the “black congressional caucus” was racist in and of itself.

The Southern Poverty Law Center describes...blah blah blah

The extreme hate group SPLC has no room to criticize anybody. They're like the Klan with a half-billion dollar offshore bank account.

Sorry - I don’t care anymore.

If BLM and the Democrats and the media can spew their hate speech about “white privilege” then I’m all for whites only churches.

“When asked whether such a decision to permit this church was racist, county commissioners smiled and said, “You don’t believe in the constitution or the bill of rights, do you?””

This is how it should have played out. Its a pretty simple equation. All of this is protected by the 1st Amendment. Its both freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Legally, the town \ county \ township can’t stop it. Denying the permit would have resulted in court cases that they couldn’t hope to win, and a waste of tax payer money to defend themselves.

Churches are different. They are under no obligation to be universalist. In this case, they could even limit membership to those descended from particular ethnic groups.

“While the term Heathenry is used widely to describe the religion as a whole, many groups prefer different designations, influenced by their regional focus and ideological preferences.

“Heathens focusing on Scandinavian sources sometimes use Ásatrú, Vanatrú, or Forn Sed; practitioners focusing on Anglo-Saxon traditions use Fyrnsidu or Theodism; those emphasising German traditions use Irminism; and those Heathens who espouse folkish perspectives tend to favor the terms Odinism, Wotanism, Wodenism, or Odalism.”

These people are weirdos, and probably Neonazis, but that’s their business.

Not sure how this is any different than a Druze congregation, which would pass unremarked. (You cannot convert to Druze; it is a religion based on bloodline.)

The SPLC, however, is a hate group that hates whites, Nazarenes, and Orthodox Jews.

I’ll bet no one would have a problem with an all black church. In fact, there are many. So what if it is some weird religion. If those people want to be among themselves, what’s the big deal? The worst thing is they want to be among other white people? FCOL!

Last I heard, freedom of association is allowed in the United States. This church poses a threat to no one. I'm Christian, so it's not my cup of tea. However, Freedom of Religion is still part of our Constitution. I would point to Louis Farrakhan's church and Reverend Wright's Church, and all Obama Churches in general as true threats.
