Americans Said No to Coronavirus Contact Tracing Spy Apps
Front Page Magazine ^ | Fri Dec 11, 2020 | Daniel Greenfield

When the NHS, Britain's socialized medicine system, debuted its contact tracing app, six million eagerly rushed to download it. After a few days, 10 million had downloaded and installed the app, and after a month, around 40% of smartphone users had put a monitoring device on their phones that would trace their social interactions and could tell them to isolate at any moment.

In October, Governor Cuomo launched a New York contact tracing app based on technology from Google and Apple, and some assistance from Bloomberg’s organization.

"It’s going to not only bring contact tracing to a new level," Cuomo boasted, while claiming that it wouldn't violate anyone's privacy.

Few New Yorkers seemed to believe him. Despite being available in Spanish, Chinese, Bengali, Korean, Russian, Haitian Creole, and, even more unexpectedly, English, the app hasn’t taken off and Cuomo’s regime has refused to reveal the data that would actually show if it’s tracking positive cases. The lack of data transparency has been the second biggest story about Cuomo’s mismanagement of the pandemic, after the deaths of 11,000 nursing home residents when his administration forced nursing homes to accept infected patients. The numbers are likely higher, but the Cuomo administration, in its typical fashion, is refusing to release the data.

After a month, only 5% of New Yorkers have downloaded Cuomo’s spy app. That’s far short of the 60% that’s needed for contact tracing to work.

Even Europeans haven’t hit that 60% target. Few outside Communist China have.

Apple and Google claimed that they needed at least 15%. Only a few states in America hit that bar and they tend to have small populations that lean leftward. Most Americans have opted out.

You mean like giving a false name and phone number when they ask at restaurants?

Possible scenario early in 2021: An order by POTUS Biden and his special health czar Fauci to direct cellphone providers to force the pushing of the tracing app. They will further direct that if the user does not accept the installation of the tracing app, either the cellphone account is locked or the cellphone is disabled.

And from your local grocer. ‘Sorry, without proper proof of vaccination we can’t risk our employees dropping food off at your domicile.’

It’s already on your phone. It was installed in updates back in September and October.

Yep.

A couple of weeks ago when we were still allowed to dine out we were in one of the counties that had a bug up their bum about that. Judging by the names given I was dining with a bunch of celebrities. Some that were dead but they did not discriminate against the differently living. :)

One waitress complained about the obviously fake names saying that they did not mind her knowing their name and number when they phoned in an order.

A older gentleman kindly explained, "I have no trouble with you knowing but I don't believe it is any of the government's business."

Mandatory social credit scores are coming. The Hiden/Ho administration learnt well from their Chinese keepers.

They’ll just make it mandatory for the Apple and google to embed it into their OS and it will be downloaded automagically anyway. No choices given to the people = no problems for the dictators.

Forcing the app upon people conditions them for the NEXT app. That conditions them for the one after that. What’s next? An app that signals that you are within 15 feet of someone who has been designated as racist and you must move away immediately?

It never stops at the first.

Your smart phone is already a tracking and listening device. Even turning it off doesn’t stop it.

Or just require it to be part of the phone's operating system so you have no chance to turn it down.

I turn off the location services unless I am actively using them (like for a map). But the fact that you can't turn it off for 911 service means that the OS always knows where you are ... unless you find the GPS antenna in the phone and cut it out.

I’m Morris Hican. Thinking of becoming James Madison or John Publius.

We’re traveling for Christmas. Gonna be a lot of cash spent in a couple of the states.

“It’s already on your phone. It was installed in updates back in September and October.”

My wife’s android got the tracing app then.

At the end of Oct. it showed that she/I/we had traveled 72 miles in 2 months. That included 2 round trips of 28 miles to and from our HMO’s surgery center.

The rest were to pick up or buy groceries.

About as boring as monitoring can do.

A GK told me how to delete the app.
