Beijing’s claim over the region overlaps with those of six other countries and is rejected by the United States. On Sunday the USS Makin Island and USS Somerset entered the contested area according to the South China Sea Probing Initiative (SCSPI).The SCSPI is a Beijing based think tank which tracks western military movements in the South China Sea.
Graphics produced by the group show the former arrived south of Taiwan whilst the later came via the Philippines.
Shortly after Chinese warships conducted an “unscripted” live-fire training exercise, using long-range weapons, according to js7tv, a news site affiliated to Beijing’s military.
The Enshi, Yongzhou and Guangyuan, all Type 056A corvettes in the Chinese navy, took part in the operation.
The report from js7tv claims the Chinese exercise included the destruction of a mock enemy ship and missile interception tests.
It was accompanied by video showing Chinese warships firing live ammunition during the event.
The US, and other western powers, refuse to accept Beijing’s claim of sovereignty over the South China Sea.
To demonstrate this they regularly send warships on ‘freedom of navigation’ patrols through the contested waters.
Global Times, a Chinese communist party run newspaper, condemned the latest American moves as “muscle-flexing”.
It said: “China should be prepared to confront the U.S. in the South China Sea and Taiwan Straits no matter who sits in the White House.”

Idiot Chinese... they will get their clocks cleaned.
He is the president elect of his basement.
IMHO, it is WAY PAST TIME for The Three Gorges Dam to spring a 3,000 foot wide “leak” to get China’s attention redirected internally instead of internationally.
“Biden has said China isn’t a threat and has downplayed their ongoing campaigns to undermine the U.S. geopolitically, militarily and economically.
Now, we know China’s dangerous handling of viruses in its own labs has led to one of the most devastating and fastest economic destructions in global history.”

Russia, China, Venezuela, and Iran are all tightly allied militarily. All obviously want a very weak United States, as does the communist left here.
Recall, Bill Clinton's treasonous ChinaGate scandal began in late 1996...
From the Sino-Russian Joint Statement of April 23, 1997:
"The two sides [China and Russia] shall, in the spirit of partnership, strive to promote the multipolarization of the world and the establishment of a new international order."

The exercise started on August 19, 2005, and consisted of combined land, sea, and air elements simulating an intervention in a state besieged by terrorists or political turmoil.
It concluded on August 25, 2005. The force practiced air and naval blockades, an amphibious assault, and occupying a region. Approximately 8,000 Chinese troops took part along with 2,000 Russian troops.
China initially wanted to hold the exercise near the Taiwan Strait, Russia wanted to hold the exercise in Northwestern China near central Asia, but instead settlement was made on the Shandong Peninsula.
There are a number of reasons for the exercise, including:
China is the largest consumer of Russian military technology. The exercise will showcase the Russian weapons including the Tupolev Tu-22M and Tupolev Tu-95 long range bombers.
The two countries are by far the most influential in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the exercise will help to strengthen military ties.
Both countries have stated that the exercise is not directed at any one country, but many believed to be a show of force against the United States and particularly Taiwan.
The United States was not invited to observe the exercise, but did observe using satellite reconnaissance.[citation needed] The stated reason for the exercise is counter-terrorism; however, many analysts agree that the use of such heavy firepower, including long-range bombers, is not necessary. ...”

Below, from The Ministry of Defense for the Russian Federation website, Feb 3, 2020...
Military representatives of the member States of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) signed a joint Protocol on the results of the second round of consultations and staff negotiations.
The signed agreement includes issues of comprehensive support of troops and the plan of the exercise stages. Also, during the joint work, the participants visited the Yurginsky training ground, where they conducted reconnaissance of the main stage site.
In addition, the foreign military inspected the place of overcoming the water crossing on the equipment. This will be the first experience for some participating countries.
The consultations were attended by representatives of 8 countries - Russia, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The negotiations were led by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Central Military District, Major General Rustam Minnekayev.
The anti-terrorist exercise “Peace mission-2020” will be held in August on the territory of the Central Military District at the Yurginsky training ground in the Kemerovo region.
During the exercise, the military personnel will have to work out the tasks of preparing and conducting an anti-terrorist operation by the joint group of troops (forces) of the SCO member States.

Reporting from Moscow —
Neither Russia nor China has one inch of coastline on the Mediterranean Sea, making it an unlikely and provocative venue for their first joint naval war games.
The 10 days of maneuvers that got underway Monday will include live-fire exercises in the strategic sea connecting Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The point is lost on no one: A powerful new alliance of eastern giants is flexing its muscles in the very backyard of Western Europe — much as China has done on its own in the Pacific.
The war games follow Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, where he headlined Victory Day celebrations and spent three days making billion-dollar deals with Russian President Vladimir Putin. ...”

The drums are already rolling for the upcoming Russian “Vostok” (east) wargames commencing on September 11. With its focal point in the Trans-Baikal region of eastern Siberia adjoining Chinese Manchuria and Mongolia, this is a nationwide Russian military and societal event.
Touted by Russian minister of defense Sergei Shoigu as “unprecedented in scale, both in terms of area of operations and numbers of military command structure, troops, and forces involved,” Russian state press is declaring that up to three hundred thousand troops and one thousand aircraft will be involved, with the majority from the Eastern and Central Military Districts.
This would be even larger than the near-legendary Zapad-81 maneuvers held in the western USSR during the depths of the Cold War. ...”
With a security hole THAT BIG they should be careful. (3Gorges dam)
One cruse missile would end their country.

After a long grilling of White House science adviser John Holdren by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) about why the United States shouldn’t be pursuing scientific collaborations with China, Hall, a Texas Republican, said:
“I don’t think you’re gonna get the answer that you expected to get, Mr. Rohrabacher. I too have seen our president bow and scrape to the enemy on many occasions.”
There was no response to Hall’s comment.
Rohrabacher had asked Holdren at the committee hearing why the Obama administration was so committed to collaborating with China, given the country’s human-rights record and history of technological espionage against the United States.
“Why is it that you feel — this administration feels — so compelled to reach out to the world’s worst human-rights abuser that is already in the process of stealing so much from us and who we have examples, over and over again, that scientific cooperation has turned into a transfer of wealth and technology to our adversary, to what appears to be economic, if not military and political adversary?” Rohrabacher said.

Mr. Obama is fostering U.S. economic and military decline while simultaneously empowering Beijing’s rise to superpower status.
China’s communists are on the march. Unless Americans wake up to the growing threat, both internal and external, our victory in the Cold War will have been useless.

It is a dire warning that China has become what America once was to Great Britain: the ambitious upstart determined to eclipse the global colossus. Yep!! That’s the point!!
Biden will apologize on day 1.....................
not sure why they navy chose an amphibious group to send the message in the chinese straits; the LPH (I believe) carries f-35s, but that isn’t a group of surface combat ships.
no, they are not competition. The Chinese are your paycheck, for you and your whole corrupt family..
"FEARS of open war in east Asia surged after Chinese warships held a live-fire drill as US naval vessels entered the contested South China Sea."
The UK can go beat it's own war drums instead of trying to beat ours.
Indeed!
Biden and his Secretary of State are already on China’s payroll:

The Chinese navy opened fire and proved that they could hit the ocean.
The Chinese have some grand long term goals.
They are pretty much laid out here:

This is mostly theater. All the Chinese need to do is develop a bio weapon which only targets Caucasians. I understand they’re working on it.
