Gov. Pritzker says science, facts are reason for Illinois’ coronavirus mitigations, ‘not taking freedoms away’

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker pushed back against notions that his coronavirus mitigations were designed to strip individual freedoms away from residents at his daily briefing on Thursday.

“People may have the notion that we’re taking their freedoms away, but there are laws on the books that say the job of government…is to step in and try to reduce the disaster and save as many lives as we can,” he said.

“We’ve put the science and facts out there throughout this…why those mitigations are in place. There are people who don’t want to believe them and say that we’re taking their freedoms away, but that’s not at all what we’re doing,” he added.

Cook County reported 6,787 COVID19 fatalities out of 2.7MM citizens or 2,519 fatalies per 1MM people.

For Illinois, those respective values are 13,625, 12.7MM, and 1,076.

Per Worldometers, the top three populous countries with the highest COVID19 deaths per 1MM citizens are Belgium at 1,467, Peru at 1,089 and Spain at 985.

So...please tell me again...if your "science-driven" protections are so flipping great, why is IL and Chicago as deadly as the worst of the countries on the planet?

The reality is that when someone has full blown symptoms, a cloth mask makes little difference. If I can smell perfume, cologne, and even smell paint drying with a cloth mask on? How effective is it going to be against airborne water droplets if I share the same room with a person with full blown symptoms for a half hour? Not to mention you don’t exhale only once or cough only once per half hour.
