Mitch McConnell poured cold water on the $908 billion COVID-19 stimulus plan, arguing that Trump would veto it

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said President Donald Trump's veto would hold up a $908 billion bipartisan stimulus bill from passing.

In a statement circulated to media outlets on Wednesday, McConnell said that only his much smaller proposal reflects "what the President is ready to sign into law."

"At the risk of repeating something we all know, making law will require not just the Senate's approval, but also the signature of the President of the United States," McConnell's statement read.

The $908 billion bill, which was backed on Wednesday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, was crafted by moderate Republicans such as Mitt Romney of Utah along with Democratic Party figures.

With both sides of the table ostensibly calling for bipartisanship, it looks like the option most likely to get support across the board. But with McConnell's opposition, it is unclear if it will get the backing of those further to the right of the GOP.

The two proposals have distinct differences. ...

More of China Mitch deflecting the blame on Trump who he thinks has one foot out the door. He’s a despicable person and as the face of the GOP, he will continue to ensure the Republican brand is terminally damaged property.

The GOP Senate already wants to deal with Chairman Joe. Incredibly, they don’t even hide it.

He’s a despicable person

I use that kind of terminology for people like Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, McCain, and Willard. McConnell blocked Merrick Garland, helped get us ACB in a pandemic and an election, and got Kavanaugh over the goal line.

McConnell may not be Deplorable, but he isn't despicable.

Trump shouldn’t sign anything. His name shouldn’t be attached to any more spending bills unless he is to remain President. He has no leverage right now to get favorable spending towards our goals, the rats can easily wait a few more weeks.

Describe him in your own way, he's a disgusting Swamp creature in my book

In the heart of the Great Recession, Mitch McConnell suddenly got richer. According to his 2009 financial disclosure, while other senators’ fortunes were falling, McConnell’s jumped, thanks to a multimillion-dollar gift from his father-in-law, James Chao, to him and his wife, Elaine Chao, who now serves as President Trump’s Secretary of Transportation.

Federal financial disclosures list assets in wide ranges. The totals in McConnell’s disclosure jumped from a range of $3.1 million to $12.7 million in 2007 to $7.3 million to $33.1 million in 2008. The big reason for that increase: a $5 million-to-$25 million gift from the elder Chao in memory of Elaine’s mother, Ruth, who died at age 77 in 2007.

Garland? McConnell gets a medal for doing nothing? I’ve got to admit he’s good at that. He didn’t “get us” us ACB. He did it for himself. He was on the ballot and needed a resume enhancer after supporting the coup for 4 years. McConnell is every bit as bad and Romney and the rest. He will be regarded as one of the least consequential Senate Majority Leaders in history.

Really? Do you remember the firestorm of MSM hate that rained down on McConnell over Garland? Indeed, there were other Republicans who disagreed with him, publicly. There is no doubt in my mind that any one of those other RINOs I listed would have let the Garland nomination go unopposed, in the name of "reaching across the aisle." So scratch Gorsuch without McConnell.

Further, Kavanaugh was in the midst of a s--- show where any number of squishy Repubs could have flipped, which would have been blood in the water. He kept them from flipping.

As for ACB, he caught hell for her, too...on the grounds of being two-faced blah blah blah. And yes, while he was up for re-election, he could have easily bowed to the libs and said "to be consistent with Garland, I'll withhold ACB."

Let me be clear...there are LOTS of problems with McConnell. I don't disagree. But these not-inconsequential SCOTUS achievements will yield dividends beyond the Trump term(s). I'll eat meat and potatoes vs pixie sticks.

I’ll reserve decision on any judicial appoints Mitch ushered thru the system until the point that they actually stop this steal. Nothing they’ve done before 11/3 or after their decision will be as consequential to the continuation of our Republic.

Fair enough. I agree with that.

...if we can just get a case to SCOTUS in time...

If the headline is essentially correct - your statement is on the mark.

McConnell's value as a R seems limited to confirming judicial nominations although it would be obviously negligent if he did not do so.

No money to states, that's t problem. Provide an extension to unemployment and a boost to small businesses for the next few months and leave it at that. The virus vaccine is the stimulus that will get people back to work by June.
