Trump angrily vows to veto $740bn military spending bill in late-night Twitter tirade
The Independent ^ | Dec 4, 2020 | Tom Embury-Dennis

Donald Trump has doubled down on his threat to veto a $740bn (£549bn) defence bill that does not include a repeal of protections for internet companies.

Congressional negotiators reached a compromise deal on Thursday regarding the National Defense Authorisation Act (NDAA), which addresses pay for service members, troop levels and weapons procurement.

The bill is expected to go to the House and Senate floors next week, where it will likely pass, before going to Mr Trump for final sign-off.

But shortly before midnight on Thursday Mr Trump, in an angry late-night Twitter tirade, vowed to veto the legislation over its failure to repeal Section 230, a provision in a 1996 law that shields social media companies from legal challenges regarding content posted by third parties.

“Very sadly for our Nation, it looks like Senator @JimInhofe will not be putting the Section 230 termination clause into the Defense Bill,” the US president tweeted at Republican senator Jim Inhofe, who is chairman of the Senate armed services committee.

“So bad for our National Security and Election Integrity. Last chance to ever get it done. I will VETO!”

>>Conservatives best get off their Mammon-worshiping asses and start organizing the counter-insurgency.<<

Relax. lol
_______________________

LOL all you want & relax while you can.

He’s right on.

Make that money and add to that retirement account, then the commies will use it to label you a pig while they confiscate it directly through taxes and regulations.

Your job will go to an HB1 visa holder, an illegal or some unqualified intersectionally-correct person of privilege. If your business is a sole proprietorship and you survived the lockdowns, expect the noose to tighten until it is simply impossible to continue the enterprise.

Your children will be inculcated against you to the point where you will obey the state in order to keep the relationship or they will turn on you in drastic ways. Ask all the faithful, conservative parents whose children chose the culture over their family and upbringing. I’m one of them and I know others.

Depending on your age and marital status, expect your spouse’s liberal family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to work against your marriage if it means that the family assets get divided and they get even a modicum of control over any portion of it. They demand control of everyone’s children, including yours. Again: that is experience speaking and I have watched it run successfully against many families.

Your home will be taxed through confiscatory property taxes.

Your neighborhood will be overrun by violence and sloth and danger.

So, yeah, just chill and laugh. That’ll be fun.

You have no idea what you are up against if these people get even a toehold and right now they have breached the wall and are dancing naked on your roof.

Not a fan of this plan. I wouldn’t mess with the military right now.

Agreed. If he vetoes, a large section of the military goes into mothballs or slowdown. Logistics, communications, cyberwarfare, maintenance, etc.

Over half of the DoD employees will be furloughed.

Good luck invoking the Insurrection Act if he does this.

So, perhaps this is his signal that he is not going to use his last card as President to stop the steal.

His latest interviews and statements to the press signal to me that he is giving up.

24 years in active and reserve service. Went through several govt shutdowns and budget stalls in congress. Never once wasnt paid. If the bill has a bed provision, he SHOULD veto it. The military and essential personal will get paid.

Thanks. He has (and has had) a lot of weapons he could use against the cyber communists, but anything that negatively affects the military right now should be off limits.

There’s the military power purpose, but also the financial impact. I”m of the belief our economy is still in recovery from the covid lockdowns, and the government should not be essentially laying off its most important personnel.

It sends the wrong message as well, as if this is his last chance to do this, even if it is. Like I said, there are other avenues to pursue this without crippling the most important and powerful part of the executive branch, which is almost like suicide at this point.

Focus all energy on exposing the election fraud. If that’s not fixed, not much else will matter, certainly not this. The MSM is actually more dangerous, if he wants to fight something other than the fraud itself.

I’ll keep fighting for Trump, but I’m fighting more for my country than any one man. If he loses this, his movement will probably move on to someone else, because it’s about MAGA first and always will be. You and I aren’t the only ones who have some questions about how much his heart is still in it. Understandable, at his age, and the beautiful family he has, and the huge corporation. Just don’t mislead us about it, is all I ask.

They don’t.

They have the power and influence, but no idea how they are viewed.

Pardon my ignorance, but doesn’t this same Section 230, or whatever, also protect the smaller fish in the social media marketplace?

Wouldn’t torpedoing Section 230 to jab at the Big Tech platforms leave smaller platforms like Parler, MeWe and Gab wide open?

And, since they don’t have the size, and the deep pockets of FB and Twitter, how would they escape being cast as low-hanging fruit, and become the first victims, here?

How is scrapping Section 230 NOT an exercise in “cutting off our nose to spite our face”?

What am I missing, here?

Check the contributions to his campaign fund and remember folks for those of you who do not know...when politicians retire, they can set up a non-profit controlled by them and transfer all of the remaining cash in their campaign funds into the non-profit tax-free. When Bob Dole retired he had over $40 million in his campaign fund...nice nest egg...............

At least 80 million Americans knows that the media has been lying daily for the past 4 years.

Some of those 80,000,000 have known this even longer

Section 230 needs a partial repeal. Of the censorship protections. I hope this is what he’s getting at. A full repeal would be bad for small sites.

“Good luck invoking the Insurrection Act if he does this. So, perhaps this is his signal that he is not going to use his last card as President to stop the steal.”

Or could he allocate funds without Congressional approval in order to put down an insurrection?

Did Lincoln have to get permission to spend large sums of money at his own discretion?

I don’t think so. Maybe NOW is the perfect time to invoke it because it gives him complete power of the purse. Otherwise, Congress would have to override his veto and might as well hold another impeachment hearing. Might turn out bad for those who do this time though.
