Personnel will have the ability to "drive" the "computerized canines" using virtual reality headsets, according to the US Air Force.
For the last year, the 325th Security Forces Squadron and Tyndall Air Force Base have worked with Ghost Robotics on a project to "enhance security and safety for the base population," according to a US Air Force press release. To accomplish this, Tyndall will incorporate a series of "semi-autonomous robot dogs" into patrol regiments, becoming "one of the first" Air Force bases to implement such technologies.
On Tuesday, a demonstration at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida illustrated the capabilities of a series of semi-autonomous robots that will be used for base operations. Maj. Jordan Criss, 325th Security Forces Squadron commander, attended the demonstration.
"We are very excited," Criss said in the release. "We are the first unit within the Department of Defense to use this technology for enhanced security patrolling operations."

“I want a Jetson Rosie who will clean my house and cook my dinners”
General purpose household robots like that will likely start becoming available the second half of this decade (2020’s), and will get better quickly, and more common over time.
Everybody is going to want them, and they will change so many businesses, and replace so many jobs.
No need to wait for a repairman, when the robot can just download the repair app in seconds.
They could grow the food for you, as well as prepare and serve it. Tailor your clothes, provide emergency medical treatment when needed, dance with you, rub your feet; do the shopping, laundry, housecleaning and dishes; spot you while weightlifting, and guard the house unblinkingly throughout the night.
Essentially, it will become like having willing slaves, with pretty much the full productive capability of super intelligent, tireless human workers at your service, 24x7.
Of course however, there will be a great struggle to use them to monitor and report on you as well - but that is the human’s fault.
“Initially, they will be just like more eyes and ears,...”
“Noses, I want more dog noses:)”
Not only are dog noses charming and endearing, but they are also a canine superpower.
It is probably going to be a lot easier to get these robots to match the eyesight and hearing of dogs, than it will be to match their sense of smell.
Given time though, the evolution of the robots will quickly blast past that of traditional biological evolution. Maybe we will get some hybrid cyborg systems along the way.
That’s wonderful!
They won't. They will be sending them after us. We are in so much trouble.
Do they shoot mechanical bees at you when they bark?
very cool
no wonder we are 24 trillion in debt / our spending is beyond nuts !!!
i love how they have the dog shaking like it’s sh1tting peach pits...
That’s CGI.
It’ll be easy to clean up your yard. Just use a magnet.
Like in Fahrenheit 451?
Wow! I thought it was real.
/s ;)
No way they are as good as a real dog.
But they might be good enough, and likely cheaper.
Plus, they can “speak” to the operator (exact location, IR signature, man or beast, olfactory signature etc.) in real time.
And they will be immune to ‘doggie treats’.
So how are our Muslim friends going to react to these ‘dogs’?
Who’s a good boy! Who’s a good boy!
I know someone who’s getting a stomach scratch!
