Richmond Circuit Court Judge Bradley B. Cavedo has filed a defamation suit against GOP U.S. Senate candidate Daniel Gade, asserting that during an Oct. 3 debate at Norfolk State University Gade falsely accused him of being "a known segregationist" and a "racist judge."
The suit asserts: "Gade also stated that Cavedo had written that 'Black people are parasites' who would suck billions of dollars out of our economy.' None of these statements are true."
Cavedo, citing damage to his personal and professional reputation, seeks $2 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.
Gade's campaign has said his assertions about Cavedo during the debate were based on a column Cavedo wrote for the University of Richmond student newspaper in 1977.

He is?
Daniel MacArthur Gade (born February 7, 1975) is an American disability and veteran rights activist, political candidate, professor, and researcher. He became an amputee in 2005 while serving as a company commander in Ramadi, Iraq. Gade retired from the United States Army as a lieutenant colonel in 2017. Gade was the Republican nominee for the 2020 election to represent Virginia in the United States Senate losing to Democrat Mark Warner.
More lawfare from leftist democrats.

Well aren’t they always calling us racists without fear of retribution and without regard as to the damage it does to our reputations.
From what I can readily see, both Captain Jack Aubrey and hemogoblin are residents of Virginia AND as I remember also, Virginia has been pretty dumb and lefty in the last few years regarding some (most) of the decisions it’s made.
I saw the handwriting on the wall, that’s why I left 16 years ago. But even then I had no idea just how low it would actually sink to.
“He is?”
____________
If the only place he could pull that type of statement was that particular article, then yes, he’s stupid.
I’m not even a lawyer, and I know that prior to making a statement that derogatory I’m going to want to see the direct source and other articles as well.
There was no way I would have taken that article to malign blacks. In some areas of this country busing also included other minorities.
He may have served this country in an admirable manner. It doesn’t mean it won’t be stupid every now and then.
Sigh.
And . . .
The judge was a Reagan delegate in the 1976 national convention.
You are correct.
The 1977 commentary did not mention blacks, race, desegregation, integration or anything of the sort. Gade made it up.
The comments about forced busing and the effect that had on destroying what had been a good school system by transporting kids across town to school they knew nothing about or would never have attended because it took more than an hour each way to get there. I guess Gade supports forced busing.
If the foo shitzz...
DAMN, son... Nothing goes quite as wrong as a not-leftist trying to pull off a DNC-style personal smear.
Silly rabbit!
Did Gade just NOT KNOW the media wouldn’t have his back on this tour? How could anyone make that misstep? Media NEVER supports anything the GOP candidates say; not even candidates for county dog catcher. Media only gets in gear if the TARGET of the smear is GOP.

Thanks anyhow for trying to help.

This judge looks like the good guy here.
Appointed to the Circuit by Warner, he opposed the taking down of confederate statues.
Richmond Circuit Court Judge Bradley B. Cavedo is facing a second complaint to the Judicial Inquiry and Review Commission seeking his removal from the bench based on the judges efforts to bar the city and state from removing Confederate statues.
