Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has drafted anti-mob legislation that would expand the states Stand Your Ground law a move that some worry would allow armed citizens to shoot and potentially kill anyone they suspect of looting.
DeSantis newest legislation comes in response to months of protesting that frequently lead to rioting this summer in Florida and across the U.S., following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
The legislation is an attempt to prevent violent and disorderly assemblies by permitting violence against anyone involved in the interruption or impairment of a business, reportedly described in the draft as being a burglary within 500 feet of violent or disorderly assembly, according to reporting by the Miami Herald Tuesday.
It allows for vigilantes to justify their actions, a former Miami-Dade County prosecutor, Denise Georges, who has worked with Stand Your Ground cases told the Miami publication. It also allows for death to be the punishment for a property crime and that is cruel and unusual punishment. We cannot live in a lawless society where taking a life is done so casually and recklessly.

Oh well.
Don’t loot they won’t shoot.
Worked in Los Angeles for the Korean shop owners.
When/IF it becomes POTENTIALLY DEADLY to commit ARSON, ATTACK citizens, LOOT STORES/HOMES & NOT obey the laws, a HUGE percentage of FELONIOUS ACTS will quickly STOP.
RIOTING, LOOTING & other FELONIES/major CRIMINAL ACTS are NOT “protesting” and/or “mostly peaceful”, no matter what the FAR LEFT/DIMocRAT-controlled press claims.

There are cameras everywhere.
If you shoot someone who wasn’t doing anything wrong it will be on the 5pm news.
So dems shouldn’t be concerned with innocents being shot at .
They won’t be.
But rioters and looters and arsonists should be.
And to be frank, if you don’t want to get shot, don’t run with them.
We should also remove the tax deductibility for shrinkage losses.
That would make businesses a lot less inclined to put up with this crap.
You used a key word - welfare. This is what I call “promoting the general welfare”.
DeSantis has always been a Trump ally. So add this to the list of curious events like the firing of Esper that suggests the admin is preparing for civil unrest.
Yes!
DeSantis is great: FL should rally behind him. Unfortunately, we can’t say that about the neighboring governor to the north of FL.
Well said!
Duh....it’s just a normal way things should be!
But I want a new desktop and laptop along with a sound system!(sarc.)
On the other hand if looters become shooters, we will have interesting OK corals outside of Arizona.
Preparation is key ladies and gentlemen.
Wow, look at the tone of this article. You’d think it was AP. I’m not clicking on the link because Fox is part of the MSM now, but from the excerpt, it’s as negative and loaded with buzzwords and outrage as any of the others.
Good. We had some rioting here in Jax during the first days of the BLM/Antifa riots. It was literally a peaceful demonstration downtown and then as it was breaking up and people were going home, a mob of Antifa (mostly white, of course) and a smaller number of BLM appeared. Some of the local bored young black male population also came downtown looking for excitement, which consisted mainly of destroying things, breaking windows on the beautiful new public library, for example.
I think the sheriffs were caught off guard and while they finally got control, it wasnt easy. And none of the merchants were prepared (I.e., boarded up) so there was a fair amount of property damage.
There were a couple of other demonstrations, mostly against things like local Confederate monuments, but the sheriffs had them pretty much under control. (Of course, then the RINO mayor gave in to the pressure groups anyway...). The important thing is to be prepared and stop these things before they really get going.
I think legally affirming the right of people to defend their own property will help to discourage potential rioters and make them decide to go riot someplace else!
DeSantis 2024!
That is awesome news
Ron DeSantis 2024. Ideally with Kristi Noem as the VP choice.
