Arizona still hasn’t been called yet and is currently divided by fewer than 15,000 votes. Exit polling suggests Trump won 36% of the Latino vote in the state.
For years, many Democrats have presumed demography as destiny, believing that Latinos would come to vote for them with the same kind of consistency that Black voters do. A growing Latino population, they hoped, would transform the political landscape and give the party an edge in the Southwest.

As I have been saying here forever, it is a mistake to think that “latinos” is a homogeneous group. Most of us even hate the term “latino” and “latinx”, which isn’t even a word in Castilian or otherwise, we hate even more.

Looks like 40 years later—one generation later—they are realizing it.
I’m in CA and I see so many signs of their Republicanism: owning or working for small businesses, work ethic, common sense, huge close families, regular churchgoing, no fear of the virus (they don’t wear masks or at least the men don’t, even in CA when there are penalties for not doing so).
My Latina friend at work in 2016 threw an election party and those who voted for Trump came in the front door and for Clinton came in the back door. She told me it was split by gender, mostly (of course).
You can’t tell me that the GOP cannot be competitive in California, the California GOP needs to get their crap in gear, it needs to be MAGA-tized. Trump should have done more rallies in California.

Hear hear, I’m as Anglo as they come. But I served with Hispanics of every conceivable ancestry while in the Army, including a lot of Puerto Rican’s. Too often the GOP and conservatives have accepted leftist, intersectional bull—-t that your demographic determines your political beliefs. Mr. Trump, to his credit, always believed that Hispanics are individuals and that a significant number of them, not just Cubans, would support him if asked.
Puerto Rico is not predestined to be a Democrat stronghold if admitted to the Union. There are already Republican island wide office holders, we have to be willing to fight for it.

FRiend, thank you for sharing that. Even at a little place like my workplace, the Puerto Ricans differ from the Mexicans, who differ from the Venezualans, who differ from the Colombians ... it is kind of arrogant for the party to try and lump them all together. And Latinx. What kind of word is that anyway! That’s arrogant, too, because it’s imposed from the outside. And ungrammatical.
THIS!! We need to fight for every state, there are millions of conservatives in California, to include our host on this site. It doesn’t matter if we can’t win this year, keep pounding away.
The Dems didn’t wrest California from us overnight, they spent years doing it. We need to show the same perseverance to win it back.
