Hitler Was Bad Way Before He Invaded Europe

The 20th century’s most defining event was Hitler’s rise to power, culminating in World War II and the Holocaust. One would think the details of this watershed moment in world history would still resonate in mankind’s collective consciousness. Yet Joe Biden flippantly told Trump, “We had a good relationship with Hitler before he in fact invaded Europe.”

This shows a profound misunderstanding of the abject depravity of the Third Reich and callous disrespect for the memory of the millions it savagely murdered. The Holocaust and War are well documented and remembered, but the reality of pre-War Germany seems largely forgotten and in desperate need of remedy.

First, Germans never elected Hitler. In a complicated scheme of political intrigue, Germany’s aging war hero, Hindenburg, then president, appointed Hitler Chancellor in 1933. But with Germany’s parliamentary system, Hitler’s powers were still checked.

Four weeks later, Germany’s parliament -- the Reichstag -- burned to the ground. Communist Marinus Lubbe was blamed for the fire and guillotined, although historians still debate the actual events. Some evidence suggests the Nazis set the blaze, using the “inept and witless” Lubbe as a cover.

A French leader called it “a gross, cynical, camouflage that could not fool the public in any other country but Germany.” Too late for Lubbe but, in 1998, Germany overturned his conviction. Whether Hitler and his Nazi Party started the fire or not, Hitler wasted no time capitalizing on it.

He was ready in Europe. Not sure how he could have invaded his own home.

Yes, he was clearly the aggressor. I am merely being pedantic.

I’m pretty sure Hitler was born in Europe and never left, so how exactly did he “invade Europe”?

There were national socialists and Bundists who thought he was cool before 1939. Why the Stealer in Chief would want to associate himself with those types is problematic—but then he associates himself with present-day socialists and abortion-promoters, so the jump from the latter to the former wouldn’t be that great.

For many on the American far Left at the time, Hitler was OK until the Spring of 1941, when he invaded the Soviet Union. Why? Because they were getting marching orders from Moscow, and Moscow was aligned with Hitler until then. Anyone who understands the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the dismemberment of Poland in 1939 gets this. The Poles sure do. The Soviets got the Eastern 40% +/- of Poland.

On June 22, 1941 the NYT published an Op-Ed by Hitler.

In fact, it was an excerpt of Mein Kampf.

They had glowing articles for years before that.

The media has been our enemy FOR A LONG TIME.

Hollywood kissed Hitler’s ass in the 30s, because they didn’t want to lose access to the German market.

This article lost me at the title. Hitler did not “invade” Europe because Germany and Austria (Die Grosse Deutsche Reich) are already in Europe.

They are indeed already in Europe, Austria is a separate Country from Germany though they speak the same language as does Lichtenstein part of Switzerland.

He was born and raised in Austria, not in Germany.

Re: Kaslin

As I recall, Kaslin, you were born and raised in post war Germany.

I am curious what your thoughts are when a couple dozen Americans start talking about the history of Germany?

Re: Before He Invaded Europe

Joe Biden made that claim - NOT the author.
