WASHINGTON - Some U.S. House of Representatives Democrats on Thursday blamed Tuesdays election losses on colleagues who embraced defunding police departments and socialist policies, according to sources familiar with a phone call they held.
Democrats went into this weeks congressional elections, in which all 435 House seats were up for grabs, with high hopes of significantly building on their majority control of the chamber.
Instead, in a jolt that has cast a pall over the party even as Democrat Joe Biden was close to toppling President Donald Trump, the party suffered the net loss of about a half-dozen House seats.
According to a source who was on Wednesdays phone call, Democratic Representative Abigail Spanberger criticized some of her fellow Democrats for support of defunding police departments after a string of deaths of Black people during arrests or shootings by law enforcement personnel. Spanberger did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
The same source said that several Democrats during the call also voiced anger over liberal members embracing socialism and echoed the idea that this caused election losses.
The 2020 election losses have led a couple House moderates to foment talk of a challenge to Pelosis re-election as speaker in January, according to The Hill newspaper, which mentioned Representative Hakeem Jeffries as a possible challenger.
A Jeffries spokeswoman told Reuters party unity was paramount and said he will run for re-election as head of the Democratic caucus and not the speakership.

They steal the election and the media tells us they lost.

But max rose marching with blm to the police precinct on Hylan Blvd in staten island in the middle of Italian town (half the island) KILLED HIM.
We voted 62 percent Trump out here.
I have no idea how he won in 2018.
Midterms are tricky
that’s done so the masses think republicans did well in many ways so they should accept the loss of the POTUS election.
They are ridiculously easy to read at this point.
BTW. Trump lost NY by 13. He lost by 24 last time!!!
But he lost all those battleground states.
No way.
Kabuki
Yet we are supposed to believe they won the Presidency.
wake me up when the call to arms is issued and everyone implicated in this fraud is to be targeted for arrests.
That’s because the Sorosists poured their money for maximum effect on States where they had ‘Rat SOS’s and had local city election officials in their pockets.
The only thing I agree with the Democrats is 2024 will be a blood bath. Folks, be prepared in the future to flood the polls as watchers, etc. Republicans were under represented in 2020. Our own damned fault.
Yep.
And it won’t be better in four years.
So we make the stand now.
Let’s see what happens with the court cases.
Things like this show why it is impossible Trump lost.
The democrat party is now the party of angry women and neutered men.
Meanwhile, unnamed sources stated that Reuters defunded their copy editors, and run-on sentences became the new standard, imparting a breathless narrative for readers, regardless of their political affiliation.
Two elections in a row we got slammed.
Our government is a joke so who cares. Amerika has arrived.
Hey Nancy....enjoy the suck....take 2 scoops of your designer ice cream with it.
I thought the Republicans flipped at least 10 seats and maybe even 12. Reuters says 6 seats. Which is it? If no Republican incumbent lost there had to be more than 6 seats flipped.
BTW. Trump lost NY by 13. He lost by 24 last time!!!
But he lost all those battleground states.
No way.
Great point. Also, I read Biden picked up 4k votes on Hillary in Cleveland and 100k in Detroit. Pretty similar places yet the increase was 25 times more votes for Biden in Detoilet? Yeah, no.
