Election night showed why Trump voters don’t trust the media

My favorite definition of a cynic: a premature realist.

Today we are all cynics or damn well should be. Show me an American who trusts politicians, polls, news organizations and social media bigs who fancy themselves our new masters and I’ll show you a fool.

Regarding the forecasts of how the election would go, Casey Stengel’s line about the hapless 1962 Mets fits the moment: “Can’t anybody here play this game?”

As we stand on the smoking ruins of shattered predictions, the answer is no, a thousand times no. The usual suspects are bumblers — and that’s being kind because some are downright dishonest.

A disputed presidential election that appears destined for the courts is the worst possible outcome for a nation already gagging on anger and polarization. Yet that’s where we are and while the campaigns position themselves for the final drama, it’s impossible to divorce the shocking results from the run-up to it.

The wall-to-wall promises of a blue wave were delivered with all the certainty of prophecy. Joe Biden and Democrats would sweep the White House and all of congress from sea to shining sea. Even a large voter survey that Fox News did with the Associated Press suggested as much.

Some 24 hours after the polls closed, President Trump still has a fighting chance to get 270 electoral votes, the GOP is holding on to a slim majority in the Senate and actually gained 5 House seats, narrowing the Dems majority to 12 seats.

We all make mistakes, and most of us try to avoid them. The problem with the unholy news-polling-social media-industrial complex is that the mistakes are so numerous and predictable that they begin to feel intentional.

Worse, all the mistakes run in one direction. What are the odds of that happening honestly?

Because I am 6 hours ahead of EST I download the major Fox programs (Carlson, Ingraham, sometimes Hannity) and watch them when I wake up in the morning. Today I downloaded all 3 plus The Five to see if any of them had the guts to call out Fox for their horrible, slanted, dishonest election night coverage. If not it could be the last time I watch them.

Carlson expressed complete disgust with the pollsters saying they should be fired!

Permanently in Europe or just traveling?

I hear you loud and clear. My jaw dropped last night watching Feux. I knew that was the end for them. Seriously, the end.

I purposefully didn’t watch any major media—I watched Newsmax a little and then Steve Bannon’s War room which was AMAZING—I wish now I’d watched it the whole 8 hours.

If Biden “wins” I’m going to cancel my subscription to the Wall Street Journal and my local rag and I’m done with all media. They wouldn’t report the Hunter Biden story.

I haven’t watched fox in maybe 7 years.

Three times last night I tried to watch and lasted five minutes.

You called it way back when, 2nddivisionvet. He told me they were frauds.

I just want AZ and GA results in because I can’t focus on work and if biden is president I can’t afford to be unemployed :)

JK He will NEVER be pres.

We will win az, ga, pa and nc.

ciao

Faux news was a complete and total Train Wreck. More biased against our President than even the NY Times. Their behavior was disgustingly biased. IMO they destroyed themselves last night. Lost all the credibility they once had. This family is done with Faux “news”. “News” programming.
That said, there are a few programs including; Carlson, Dobbs, Hannity, Ingraham, Judge Jeanine, Levin, that deserve support.

We moved to Spain in March of 2016. We were looking for someplace warm to retire to and be closer to my wife's family who live in the UK. The Costa Tropical fit the bill. It never gets close to freezing, you don't swelter in the summertime and if you do the Mediterranean is steps away. If you happen to be into gardening where we live is the equivalent of American hardiness zone 10B, central Florida and similar. They also have a halfway decent postal system so I always receieve my absentee ballot in plenty of time. This is what we see when we wake up every morning.

It was several days ago that I unintentionally offended a friend and business associate by telling him I thought Fox News was a fifth-rate media outlet that markets itself to people of marginal intelligence. I didn’t realize he was a big Fox News viewer.

Hopefully he now understands what I was talking about. When I see him tomorrow I’m hoping he tells me that he’ll never watch that slop again.

I’ll use Michael Goodwin’s phrase to explain myself: I’m just a “premature realist.”

Trump got triple censored by Twitter.

His tweet got censored, the tweet from Matt Walsh that it included got censored, and the tweet that Matt Walsh’s tweet included got censored.

I had to click on multiple links just to read the complete tweet.

Even then, there was some stupid statement from Twitter about misleading information.

Twitter is in CNN’s league of misleading.

Faux news was a complete and total Train Wreck.

I have a choice between Fox News and CNN International. Normally I don't watch either one but I do enjoy Tucker Carlson. I also watch Laura Ingraham but that was more because I was a fan of her radio show. I don't think her tv show is anywhere near as good. Hannity is like a broken record. I can only stand him in small doses and only download his programs on special occasions like today, when I want to see if he disses his bosses or just plays the part of the corporate shill.

LOL, he probably assumed you were a liberal, since that's how they talk about Faux.

Fox News is a globalist propaganda outlet. They don’t give a sh!t about the accuracy of their news reporting.

Sean Hannity can’t wait until the GOP establishment and a President Biden find some other Islamic sh!t-hole to invade ... so he can be TV’s biggest cheerleader for a decades-long military campaign that nobody within six branches on his family tree will ever see up close.
