After years of watching the "news" programs, I have come to the conclusion that whenever a statement is started with the word "look," especially by a politician, everything that follows will be a lie.
Look...................
Same thing with so.
Yes!!! You are so correct and this drives me nuts. It’s not even linguistically correct since what people really mean is “listen”.
Biden does it all the time.
and “listen”
bottom line
what it comes down to
Ending with, Cmon man!
Trust me on this...
Well, John Solomon (Just the News) starts his sentences with ‘look’ quite often and he’s a great reporter. Just saying.
“At the end of the day”
Anytime someone answers a question beginning with “so”, I am 99% certain the person either doesn’t really know what they are talking about or are lying
When I hear that one, I yell at the TV, “at the end of which day?”
Karl Rove is King of the “Look,”!
I noticed that even with regular people. Whenever you’re debating someone, the minute they hold their hands up, take a deep breath, and say, “Look—” that means they are losing the debate, and are about to try and “re-set” the discussion on a path more favorable to them.
Have they switched back to “look?” They were all saying “lookit” for awhile, which is even more annoying.
It is when their lips start moving, that is the tell.
Folks... at the beginning, middle or end of a sentence.
I remember the first time I ever heard so used that way. It was in a meeting at Sun Microsystems in about 1995. It has snowballed ever since.
“”statement is started with the word “look,””
The statement is usually “Look - I mean” when they haven’t even said a word yet. Not only politicians but it’s a wretched habit anyone on the news has.
“”I remember the first time I ever heard so used that way. It was in a meeting at Sun Microsystems in about 1995. It has snowballed ever since.””
It is near the top of my “cannot stand” list..right up there with the “sing song” of speech like every statement is a QUESTION.
~~SO~~ - the first time I heard it was some years back with a panel in front of a congressional hearing. It was ALL government/agency heads or employees. I think it Lois Lerner and crew.
