VIENNA (AP) — Austria’s top security official said that four people have died — including one assailant — and fifteen people were wounded in a shooting in the heart of Vienna late Monday.
Interior Minister Karl Nehammer told reporters Tuesday that two men and a woman have died from their injuries. A suspected attacker, who was carrying an assault rifle and a fake suicide vest, was also shot and killed by police.
Nehammer said that initial investigations indicate that the suspect who was killed had sympathized with the Islamic State group.
“We experienced an attack last night by at least one Islamist terrorist,” Nehammer told reporters. He declined to elaborate, citing the ongoing investigation.
Authorities were still trying to determine whether further attackers may be on the run, he said. People in Vienna have been urged to stay at home if possible Tuesday.

Local Vienna news says that the police shot dead the guy. However, Police aren’t sure it was just one guy (six sites around town where rounds were fired). A couple of arrests have occurred since last night. Police used explosives to blow down the door of the guy’s apartment last night...figuring it was booby-trapped.

I was in Vienna in 2019, walking around the center of that most gorgeous capital when, I passed by several Muslims chatting in Arabic, sitting down. I knew enough Arabic to pick up that they were talking about the Islamic State. At that time I told my wife that this is the future, with homegrown radical Islamists in the heart of Christian (not for too long) Europe. It is no coincidence that Vienna, especially a Jewish part of Vienna would be targeted. Sad, Appeasement never works. Weren’t we supposed to learn the lessons of WWII?
Thank GOD for Viktor Orban in Hungary sending the migrants marching to Austria as Hungary would not allow them to remain on their soil.
We are now past a decade of the EU trying to force Hungary and the other Visegrad nations to take migrants against their will, but the four states remain strong, safe and proud of their culture.

He wasn’t simply an IS sympathiser - the authorities are now admitting that he tried to join IS in Syria and was jailed in Austria for his activities, but let out early (presumably to enable him to carry on with his terrorism activities in his adopted country...)

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted Monday night as he prepared for his final rally ahead of Election Day: “Our prayers are with the people of Vienna after yet another vile act of terrorism in Europe.”
“These evil attacks against innocent people must stop,” Trump added. “The U.S. stands with Austria, France, and all of Europe in the fight against terrorists, including radical Islamic terrorists”
The dead attacker was a 20-year-old Austrian-North Macedonian dual national who had a previous terror conviction.

This guy was a ‘loser’, who wanted to run off to the ISIS war in Syria (late 2018). For some odd reason, Austria figured out his plan, detained the guy, charged him up, and convicted the guy (22 months, starting April 2019). So then, the brilliant Austrians decided with good behavior...to let the guy out in December of 2019 (meaning he served 9 months, not 22).
If they’d allowed him to leave for the war....he would have probably been killed off in late 2018 with the rest of the ISIS thugs.
It just begs the question at this point...who else did they charge up, and then release early? There could be forty of these guys wandering around Austria.
