LIFEBOAT

One of the great World War II films was LIFEBOAT, about the ordeal faced by survivors of a passenger ship that was sunk by a Nazi U-Boat in the middle of the Atlantic. The film details their struggle for survival in a small lifeboat, fighting the elements, thirst and then fighting against each other.

Each person has their own ideas about how to navigate the little boat: they argue about who should be in charge; and they find little things to fight over even when they run out of things to fight over. Eventually they come to understand that their only hope is in putting aside their differences and working toward the common goal of survival. They learn that they cannot possibly get the boat to safety unless they all adopt that unifying goal.

In a sense the entire world is a LIFEBOAT, and we are all like the survivors in that film. We cannot solve the great problems which confront humanity--hunger, disease and war--unless we unite in a common effort to find meaningful remedies to these plagues.

It is also true in every other sphere of life, in the family and in the workplace. When people unite to achieve common goals, and are willing to give and take, and think of each other's needs...then there is no limit to the good things they can accomplish together. As Frank Purdue once said: "There's no limit to the quality you can build into a chicken".

Good evening, Mayor, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.

Were you able to rest today? Is it getting colder?

Doesn’t sound like it was too bad a day for you. It would have been nicer if it had been a totally “you” day. No work.

It looks like it could rain (or snow) at any time on the airport cam. It looks like it did here all day. Dreary. We have rain in the forecast every day for the next week so I guess we’re stuck with dreary for a while.

Howdy, luvie.

Are the kitties getting used to the chill in the air yet?

It was cool here today but comfortably so. Just wet but we needed that badly.

Dreary is a perfect depiction of the day. Do you still need the rain? Is it welcome?

It can snow, or rain, AFTER I get home tomorrow. LOL!

HI, there!

They are to an extent. It was warmer today with lots of sun to sit in and tomorrow will be in the high 80s before plunging down to the high 30s tomorrow night. I’ll make sure they have plenty of cuddle material tomorrow.

I am glad you had some “wet”. That’s always a good thing. Also glad it was comfortable. Maybe the rain will settle some of the allergens you’re suffering from.

We got a decent amount of rain today but can use more. It’s been very dry for months and the water table needs the boost.
But the farmers who still have crops to harvest are going to have a hurtin’ put on them by this delay.

If it’s going to snow up there, I hope it does wait until you get your stuff done and get back home!

OUCH! That’s going to be a drastic drop in the temp tomorrow night. I guess Peaches isn’t going to want to go outside. He’ll prefer to stay in and bug you all night long. LOL

We needed the wet but the timing isn’t good. We could have gotten by another week without it and the farmers could have finished getting crops in. Some of them are going to take a hit this year, I’m afraid since we have rain all week. Even from remnants of the new tropical storm.

Bella’s breathing a little better today and that makes me happy. She had a rough week with all the dust in the air.
Hubby and I won’t get a break for a while yet since we’ll be a long time cleaning out his cousin’s dusty house. Ugh!

Thank you for the thread you are a Blessing to us all Kathy!

Oh, Peaches spends most nights in the house. He goes out till late...till I’m ready to snooze...and then comes in. Now that it’s cooler, he is a good snuggle bug. A nice little warm spot.

I had hoped the farmers had gotten the crops in by now. I hate that the rain will slow them down and possibly damage their crops. I can’t even imagine all the dust in that house. Hope it’s not going to take forever like Clara’s has. LOL!

I know he sleeps in every night but with it cold, he won’t want to stay outside as late. That means inside bugging Mommy longer. LOL

With all the rain we had this spring, a lot of fields were planted later than usual. The later ones are just to the point of being ready for harvest. Our fields are usually harvested in Sept. but were just done this week.

The lack of rain this summer already hurt the soybeans and corn. The seeds and kernels didn’t plump up as much as they should and it takes more to fill a bushel when they’re small.

Farming is a gamble.

It’s a huge gamble and it’s a wonder anyone has the courage to do it any more. It’s so expensive that it’s hard to break even.

I’m glad you’re getting rain, though. I wish we would. Nothing since June. Good thing all we raise around here is oil. LOL!

We’ve had pretty good luck around here the past few years with bumper crops and it was pretty much a given that luck was going to run out soon. Ya just know it’s comin’.
Maybe next year will be better.

We do need this rain but it would be nice if it was just for a day or two, not a whole darn week!

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

You and Gizmo been behaving yourselves? :-)

I guess it’s going to be a little brisk for your daily romps for a day or so, huh?

It sure did look like you were going to get more with the TD. I hope it moves through fast so it doesn’t flood things.

Guess I’d better get out of here. No pew bonking tomorrow morning. LOL! See ya tomorrow night.

They don’t know how much we’ll get from the TD when it gets here later in the week. We don’t have washouts any days from whatever else is moving through before then, just moderate chances for rain. If there’s any flooding, it’ll be anywhere but here.

Nope. Don’t want your head smacking the back of the pew. LOL! Sleep well!

Well, I think if all goes well we might be able to get one more good day in before the weather gets messy Monday. We'll see. Here are pics from yesterday.
