LIFEBOAT

One of the great World War II films was LIFEBOAT, about the ordeal faced by survivors of a passenger ship that was sunk by a Nazi U-Boat in the middle of the Atlantic. The film details their struggle for survival in a small lifeboat, fighting the elements, thirst and then fighting against each other.

Each person has their own ideas about how to navigate the little boat: they argue about who should be in charge; and they find little things to fight over even when they run out of things to fight over. Eventually they come to understand that their only hope is in putting aside their differences and working toward the common goal of survival. They learn that they cannot possibly get the boat to safety unless they all adopt that unifying goal.

In a sense the entire world is a LIFEBOAT, and we are all like the survivors in that film. We cannot solve the great problems which confront humanity--hunger, disease and war--unless we unite in a common effort to find meaningful remedies to these plagues.

It is also true in every other sphere of life, in the family and in the workplace. When people unite to achieve common goals, and are willing to give and take, and think of each other's needs...then there is no limit to the good things they can accomplish together. As Frank Purdue once said: "There's no limit to the quality you can build into a chicken".

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Strong and Courageous

Bible in a Year:

As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Joshua 1:5 Each night, as young Caleb closed his eyes, he felt the darkness envelop him. The silence of his room was regularly suspended by the creaking of the wooden house in Costa Rica. Then the bats in the attic became more active. His mother had put a nightlight in his room, but the young boy still feared the dark. One night Caleb’s dad posted a Bible verse on the footboard of his bed. It read: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; . . . for the Lord your God will be with you” (Joshua 1:9). Caleb began to read those words each night—and he left that promise from God on his footboard until he went away to college.

In Joshua 1, we read of the transition of leadership to Joshua after Moses died. The command to “be strong and courageous” was repeated several times to Joshua and the Israelites to emphasize its importance (vv. 6–7, 9). Surely, they felt trepidation as they faced an uncertain future, but God reassuringly said, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (v. 5).

It’s natural to have fears, but it’s detrimental to our physical and spiritual health to live in a state of constant fear. Just as God encouraged His servants of old, we too can be strong and courageous because of the One who promises to always be with us.

Reflect & Pray

What are your deepest and most persistent fears? How can meditating on God’s promises help you overcome your fear and anxiety?

Faithful Father, thank You that You’re always with me. Help me to remember Your promises and to trust in You when I’m afraid.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...did you and Blue have a nice outing today? You and Penny get to cruise her “kingdom”?

Dull, overcast, and chilly here.

A Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.

I woke up this morning to find a lovely brand new bandana hanging on my doorknob. It was in a sealed package from the Humane Society. I figured it was from a very elderly neighbor who is very involved in animal rescue. Since she is a frail elder who is a cancer survivor, I wrapped the bandana around my face like a mask, and went to thank her. She saw the bandana on my face, and said, “THAT’S FOR PENNY, NOT YOU!”

LOL.

Anyway, I tied the bandana onto Penny, and we went visiting. Then I took a short ride on Blue, but it was getting cloudy. so I came home.

Sis took me out to eat in a lovely outdoor venue, where a friend and his two little boys played live music. Patio lights, falling leaves, Classic Rock, chicken wings and wine.

Now I am watching my second Trump Rally of the day. (I know there were three but I missed the middle one in Ohio)

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Is the harvesting over? Can you breathe yet?

Lots of work...cleaning up a bushel of paperwork, but relatively restful.

I’ll go into work for about 15 minutes tomorrow to scan last week’s stuff and then more paperwork. Supposed to rain. We will see as the temps drop.

Hey there, Kathy.

The harvest is OVER! At least here. There are still plenty of fields in the area to go though. There are still some of the big round cotton bales in the fields to be taken away but that’s not going to bother us.
It’s been raining today so NOTHING is being done in the fields right now.

Can’t say we can breathe yet though. We’re still cleaning out Hubby’s cousin’s house and it is incredibly dusty. GACK!!
