As some have noted in the past, Salena is generally worth the read. She is probably one of the most undervalued journalists in the country.

Trump has transformed the Republican Party into the real champions of hard working people whatever they do.

… even though he didn’t bring jobs back …
It is not the POTUS’ job to “bring jobs” anywhere, but to create conditions so that government does not impede job creation. The biggest factor is federal regulation due to left-wing abuse of the Commerce Clause.

Obama started his “Clean Power Plan” in 2015 which hasn’t given Trump but 3 years to fight to reverse it.

Trump is trying, and the miners know that. But it’s hard to bring back coal-mining jobs when nanny-state officials are closing down the companies that buy the coal. From the article:

“In the last five years, 483 coal-fired electric generating units in the US have closed or announced their retirement.”

Always worth the read.

I've been reading her columns for over two decades, maybe three and she always does the leg work.

She is not a hip shooter, just writing her opinion, she goes into the field and does research.

She is an old time reporter, thank God.

Hey idiots: stop pretending that US CO2 emissions are any sort of an issue. They are not.

Our CO2 output is almost exactly the same as it was in 1990. It was 5086 MtCO2 in 1990, and 5107 in 2017. That's an increase of only 0.4%. That's 0.015% per year. Almost THIRTY years, with basically ZERO additional output, while still dramatically increasing energy production. Our population has risen from 250m to 330m (32%), plus our thirst for electricity has exploded since then. Virtually nobody plugged in cars or phones or a third TV or their doorbell camera or their multiple computers etc in 1990.

Now let's look at the CO2 output of all mankind as a whole...

1990: 22,674
2017: 37,077.
The world spewed out 14,403 more MtCO2 in those same 27 years, an increase of 63.5% Got that? US, up 21. Everyone else, up 14,382... 685 times MORE than the US output increase.

So who is to blame? Well, it sure isn't Russia or Ukraine, the champions of lowering CO2 output in those years. They dropped by 614 and 578 respectively. Outstanding! And the EU as a whole dropped 861 MtCO2 annually. Got that? EU + Russia + Ukraine are DOWN 2053!! Great job!!

So where the heck is all this additional manmade CO2 coming from every year?

As any rational observer would expect, it is China that is responsible for by far the most new output. China went from 2397 in 1990 to 10,877 in 2017. No, that is not a typo. Their 358% INCREASE (+8480 MyCO2/yr) is basically the same as the US and EU produce in total, COMBINED (3548+5107=8655). CHINA added another US and EU of output to the world, and in just 27 years. Read that again. And by the way, that beloved Paris Accord does not require China to start adhering to its directives until 2030. They have a free ride until then... and who seriously expects them to live up to it in 2030 either?

That's 8480 of the planet's increase of 14,403... 58.9%... all from one country. And the US is the problem?!?! China's increase is 404 times as large as ours... but we are the problem. Ahem.

India is the only nation within an order of magnitude of China, with an increase of 1849 (which is 305% of their 1990 output).
Third place is Saudi Arabia at +472, and then Iran at +465, South Korea at +403, and Indonesia at +349.
Also noteworthy: International Shipping is up 306, and International Air Travel is up 285.

To recap it is:
China +8480
India +1849
the other 187 nations (plus international sources) +4074
US + EU + Russia + Ukraine = -2032.
WHO IS THE PROBLEM AGAIN? Who has to adhere to the Paris Accord and further reduce output, while China gets to keep increasing output? The facts do not reflect the direction of the proper efforts.

Oh, and by the way... increased CO2 is VERY good for all plant life on earth. We are at 410ppm now, and increasing at +1.8/yr. All plant life, including trees and crops, maximize growth and photosynthesis, between 750 and 1500ppm, depending on species. Got that? We are slowly approaching IDEAL conditions for life on earth, and the insane Left wants to prevent it. At 1.8/yr, it will take 189 years to get to the bottom of that ideal range, 417 years to get to the top of the ideal range, and another 189 years to get as far from the ideal range as we are today. Got that? It will take us 795 years to be as far from ideal as we are today, at our current, horrible, evil increase.

And by the way, CO2 levels were over 7000ppm and under 100ppm in the earth's natural climate cycles. Mammals (including humans) are not adversely affected below 5000ppm.

And yet, the hysteria is that the planet will be harmed in 30 years... somehow... by getting closer to ideal conditions for plant life... and not endangering mammals... SMH

I saw a commercial a this morning with a steel worker blasting Trump for not bringing steel jobs back. Funny thing is he was from Michigan and he said he got laid off this past April. Mmmm...what was going in in April. Probably more likely got shutdown due to Gov. Whitler of Michigan.

Those who live outside the hollers point to statistics that show more coal jobs have been lost since Trump took office. And it’s true: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were close to 90,000 coal-mining jobs in 2012, compared with 46,600 today. In the last five years, 483 coal-fired electric generating units in the US have closed or announced their retirement.

I don't remember Trump becoming POTUS in 2013...

I hadn't really thought of coal's role in steel production

I worked 38 years in the industry. Worked in 21 in the mines and 17 out of corporate. In 2012 I got caught up in the Romney wars here and was banned. Many here would sit it out rather than vote for Romney. Jug Ears did a hell of a bunch of damage to this country. We had already seen what he did in the first four. I knew at that time if Jug Ears was re-elected my career was over. In 2013-2015 all the major’s went into bankruptcy. I asked to be packaged out in 2015 at the age of 58.

I know the miners as well as anyone. All the miners know even before Trump that the industry was in the crapper. We had one mine in WV that had a drilling rig for NG (not ours) within 200 yards of the mine office. The miners knew that NG was displacing coal. All the miners know that any long lasting future is working in metallurgical coal. They all know sequestration is a fantasy.

Less than 15% of all coal is union coal. Even they understand.

All the major banks and brokerages support Biden and have been funding him. Regular people support and fund Trump. Pretty much says it all!
