Most Voters Who Went Third Party in 2016 Are Backing Biden Over Trump This Year
Morning Consult ^ | October 22, 2020 | Eli Yokley

A sizable share of Americans eschewed the major-party dichotomy and voted for third-party candidates in 2016, helping deliver the White House to President Donald Trump.

But four years later, almost all of the likely voters who opted against both the Republican and Democratic nominees last time around aren’t planning to do so again, Morning Consult Political Intelligence tracking shows — and a slim majority are siding with former Vice President Joe Biden.

Daily tracking of likely voters conducted Oct. 16-18 found 53 percent of likely voters who opted for someone other than a major-party nominee in 2016 said they’re backing Biden in this year’s election, while 21 percent said they’re supporting Trump. Another 14 percent said they would vote for a third-party candidate again, while 12 percent are still undecided. The data is based on surveys with 359 likely voters who backed someone other than Trump or Clinton in 2016, with a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

It was the riots. All those riots scared the independents right into the arms of the Democrats.

Incorrect and illogical. Go to Trump rallies where they tallied those in attendance. Almost 30% present were voters who did not vote in 2016 and voters who had never voted.

Around 20% of Dems at the Trump rally are turning to those who support police, not those who want to de-fund them.

This is a consistent phenomena at Trump rallies.

Trump would never have those idiots in the 1st place. This is non news. These are hand wringing, hair brained, can’t decide which side of the toast to butter dbags.

No, perhaps not - but the issue isn't them still being against him - if they are in fact switching from third party to his main opponent, that would not be a good thing. If the opposition to Trump had been united in 2016, he would have lost 54% to 46% in what would have been an electoral landslide against him.

Only the die hard party Members can vote for Biden and turn their eyes away from what he has been involved with. No mater how one looks at it, Trump is still the lesser of the 2 evils. That doesn’t change things that much because elections today are determined by who has the most fans, not thinking voters.

“So if you could be so easily confused and vote for the wrong person Last Time, why wouldn’t you think that there are people out there who don’t know what they stand for, just like you?”

There was nothing in 2016 to actually show that Trump was legitimately conservative. He had a good talk and was anti-establishment but earlier in his career he was seemingly more left-leaning. But his time as President has shown he’s actually doing as he said. You can call it confusion; I call it confirmation.

Morning consult LOL. Is there even a Green Party candidate this year? The left almost killed the last one after taking votes from Shillary.

Yeah.....I doubt that. There are far more libertarians than any other3rd party. They are much closer to Republicans than Democrats. I know a few who are all on board for Trump this time.

Well gee, I’d better rethink my vote for Trump then. I want to be like most third party voters.

Correct. I haven’t seen anyone who credibly claims to have voted for Trump in 2016 say that they are voting against him this time.

This is from the polling firm that shows Biden and Trump tied in Texas and Lindsey Graham is tied in South Carolina. Morning Consult is not the most credible polling firm.
