U.S. Space Force may not yet have its own boot camp, but the service's very first direct enlistees are about to head to entry-level training nonetheless.
Chief Master Sgt. Roger Towberman, senior enlisted leader of the Space Force, said seven new recruits will head to basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where they'll train alongside Air Force recruits -- albeit with a few distinctions.
"They needed to know they were different; that's important to us," Towberman told Military.com in an interview Thursday.
In addition to their Occupational Camouflage Pattern uniforms with service-specific blue-stitched name tapes, the recruits will each have tablets loaded with information about the fledgling service they're joining, he said.
"We've preloaded those tablets with some learning materials and different things that they can get a head start on -- 'Hey, what is this Space Force thing all about?'" he said.

I was in basic there in the mid 70s. They flew me to my tech school at Lowery AFB in Denver in early December.
All of a sudden my dress blues seemed mighty thin and I felt like a goldfish on a tile floor gasping for air! There aint no air!
If they issue you a red shirt, get your affairs in order.
One wonders whether astronauts will eventually be exclusively a part of the Space Force.
“If only I was 18 years old again, Id sign up in a heartbeat!”
Same here!
Its much easier to do pushups and pullups in zero gravity!
Who knows, but scenes like that may take place one day. As the old line goes, God has an inordinate fondness for beetles.

I wonder what kind of duties an Airman 1st Class would have? Scraping asteroid dust off of some new orbiting weapon?
Price of gold would drop. Would disappear as currency. See “Rip Van Winkle Affair” Twilight zone original episode.
ME, TOO.

I SALUTE YOU, SISTER-IN-ARMS.
FYI, I had one of the FIRST “coed” platoons of the Army’s MPs. = Our women did VERY WELL, largely because they wanted SO BAD to DO GOOD. - FREQUENTLY, they surpassed our MALE MPs, too.

It was a lot of fun and a lot of work. But well worth it. I have fond memories of a lot of those fellow soldiers - not a bad memory there, even on the most grueling of days. :)
Mobile infantry does the dying. Fleet just does the flying.
Are they still going with the Air force type of ranks? Like Commander instead of captain, and captain being kind of low rank
Or are they going to follow (more appropriately I think) the naval ranks and traditions?
The naval traditions were instituted after centuries of experimentation of keeping a large group of people holed up in a small vessel for lengthy periods of time.
The commodity price of gold would collapse, but its intrinsic (giggle) value would make it ideal for use as US currency. I suggest a 50-50 split between gold and silver (or if not avaiable, gold and platinum metals) in a pretty swirl and as metallic foam to make larger coins that are lighter and have better stiffness, and make fakes easy to detect.
I hope not, astronauts should be civilians, not military.. For the most part. Hopefully a lot more private citizens coming up too.
