Texas Sen. John Cornyn became the latest GOP senator to distance himself from President Trump this weekend ahead of a surprisingly tight reelection battle.

In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram editorial board published on Sunday, Cornyn said that he has confronted Trump privately, rather than publicly, on disagreements over issues such as budget deficits and debt, tariffs, trade agreements and border security.

He said there are things he disagrees with Trump about but preferred to solve issues via legislation and compromise. That is a mature competent position. I expect that People will disagree but find ways to work together. He voted for Supreme Court justices and has generally supported the Trump agenda. Would you rather see the excretable M.J. Hegar the crypto-lesbian win the seat? Corny may not be perfect but he is far from the worst option.
