The online version of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary changed the definition of sexual preference on the same day that senators scolded Judge Amy Coney Barrett for her use of the word during day two of her confirmation hearings.
When questioned by Democratic senators on the judiciary committee on Obergefell v. Hodges, which decreed a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, Sens. Mazie Hirono and Cory Booker reprimanded Barrett for using the term sexual preference, claiming that is was outdated and offensive.

The dictionary online has no listing for “sexual preference” now.

The Faggie Mafia’s tentacles are everywhere.
That doesn’t make sense, even on its own terms. Sexual preference implies one’s preference in sexual partner. There is absolutely nothing in the expression that implies one can choose one’s preference. I am a heterosexual. I did not chose to be such, but I am. The term “sexual preference is about as anodyne and neutral as an expression can be. It can only offend those who are looking for a pretext to take offense. ACB cannot tell the senators that, but I am sure she knows that.
What are they going to do, confiscate & burn all the existing dictionaries a la 1933?

The Merriam-Webster dictionary updated its definition of the word “preference” on Tuesday, to include that the word is considered offensive when referring to someone’s sexual orientation.
The change came following Amy Coney Barrett’s use of the term during day two of her Supreme Court confirmation hearings, and was noticed immediately by journalist Steve Krakauer, who took to Twitter to highlight the recent update of the definition.
“As recently as last month, Webster’s Dictionary included a definition of ‘preference’ as ‘orientation’ or ‘sexual preference.’ TODAY they changed it and added the word ‘offensive.’ InsaneI just checked through Wayback Machine and it’s real,” Krakauer tweeted on Tuesday.

English is the language of colonizers. It must be destroyed.
I’ve got a massive 4.5” thick Websters I reference once in
a while, because I know words that others don’t, and I
check myself to see if I’m right. I generally am.
My spelling is terrible, but that’ll have to wait for my
next voluminous post. LOL
At any rate, ‘sexual preference’ doesn’t appear in it.
I don’t think that term has been around for more than a
couple of decades. My Websters is a 1994 edition.
Especially when so many things are undated.
Fortunately, court decisions are published and I will bet ACB has read more decisions that used the term "sexual preference" than "sexual orientation". ACB, after all, is a lawyer, judge and professor of law and not a politician, social worker or community organizer.
Sexual choice works for me...
but sexual preference works too...
Hey could be sexual pro-choice ...
or pro-choosing sexual preference...
Changing definitions on the fly.
Merriam Webster also redefined “racism” to the social justice definition after a black SJW complained. That was overnight.
Hence all of the desire to force feed training in HR departments about microaggressions and micro inequities. I noticed my wife's employer's training slides on implicit bias (required training for all employees) and stated that if people need to be so obsessed with finding perceived slights down to the micro level, then they need to move on, grow up and get a life, or do everyone a favor and check themselves out of the real world. If all we have to concern ourselves over are micro-level iniquities, then we certainly have come a long way!
Also they don't make a satisfying thud when thrown during the Two Minute Hate.
The dark-haired girl behind Winston had begun crying out 'Swine! Swine! Swine!' and suddenly she picked up a heavy Newspeak dictionary and flung it at the screen.
However, if any word has at least one non-offensive meaning, then it stays.
So FAG, FAGGOT, and BITCH all remain because each has at least on non-offensive meaning (cigarette, bundle of sticks, female dog).
Ha ha!
From Rex Stout’s “Gambit”:
“Mr. Wolfe is in the middle of a fit. It’s complicated. There’s a fireplace in the front room, but it’s never lit because he hates open fires. He says they stultify mental processes. But it’s lit now because he’s using it. He’s seated in front of it, on a chair too small for him, tearing sheets out of a book and burning them. The book is the new edition, the third edition, of Webster’s New International Dictionary, Unabridged, published by the G. & C. Merriam Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. He considers it subversive because it threatens the integrity of the English language....”
