Cuba, China and Russia on Tuesday were elected to the U.N. Human Rights Council -- a move that the U.S. branded a mockery of the body's intended purpose and as proof that Washington was right to leave the council in 2018.
The three countries, all with a history of authoritarianism and human rights abuses, were elected by the U.N. General Assembly, along with countries including Bolivia, France, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Senegal, Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia was on the ballot but failed to drum up enough support to win a seat.

Ho hum, so long as we have the veto in the Security Council this means squat.
It’s stuff like this that de-legitimizes the U. N.
Of course there’s worse things, but this is a real tell
when it comes to whether it’s a body that can exhibit
good judgement.
Leave all the politics aside, if you’re talking to
someone about the value of the U. N., this is one
aspect of it that should be clear to anyone you need
to understand what a vile organization it is, and it’s
not dependent on your world view.
Decades ago now, Libya was appointed the lead nation on
one topic. I forget if it was human rights or
terrorism.
Another terrible nation got a similar appointment for
a year of leading out some commission.
Then it’s staff were raping children in nation were
refugees needed help.
Yeah, it’s just a swell organization, even before you
get the the really dicey stuff like wars or
adventurism like China is involved in now.
Move the entire UN, building and all to some third world country, stop funding them and nominate Greta Thunderstorm for sec. general.
Perfect plan!
Move the U.N. to Jerusalem, let’s get this End Times rolling! The news is not certainly getting any better.
The HRC is and has been an absurd joke for a long time with some of the worlds worst scumbags as members
the un is not a legitimate body, period
its a private organization, its not true government
no one by us and most other places sent there is ‘elected’
Except, there is nothing humans can do to “bring on the end times”.
Maybe the goal of the Human Rights Council is to actually end human rights.
Long been a mockery, and in my educated international relations and terrorism studies opinion, the UN has always worthless other than being a tool.
The U.S. left the UN Human Rights Council two years ago. Why care who is a member of it?
I agree.
Did you know UN changes or additions of laws do not require
anything near 50% approval of member nations.
I believe the International Criminal Court was approved with
something like 40% of it member nations showing favor for the
plan.
Dont be naive, mate.
The US of A is the country with the worst human rights record, after MSMs 4 months extensive coverage of Floyd riots, it has sparked a global kneeling movement.
The UN already has an office in Jerusalem. I went by it when I visited Israel in 1979. Appropriately, it is on the “Hill of Evil Counsel.” The hill got its name because that is the spot where Judas made a deal with the Pharisees, to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Of course today’s Israelis think it is a great joke that the UN office ended up there.
