Ho hum, so long as we have the veto in the Security Council this means squat.
It’s stuff like this that de-legitimizes the U. N.
Of course there’s worse things, but this is a real tell
when it comes to whether it’s a body that can exhibit
good judgement.
Leave all the politics aside, if you’re talking to
someone about the value of the U. N., this is one
aspect of it that should be clear to anyone you need
to understand what a vile organization it is, and it’s
not dependent on your world view.
Decades ago now, Libya was appointed the lead nation on
one topic. I forget if it was human rights or
terrorism.
Another terrible nation got a similar appointment for
a year of leading out some commission.
Then it’s staff were raping children in nation were
refugees needed help.
Yeah, it’s just a swell organization, even before you
get the the really dicey stuff like wars or
adventurism like China is involved in now.
Maybe the goal of the Human Rights Council is to actually end human rights.
Long been a mockery, and in my educated international relations and terrorism studies opinion, the UN has always worthless other than being a tool.
The U.S. left the UN Human Rights Council two years ago. Why care who is a member of it?
