WASHINGTON The nations top general declined on Sunday to endorse either of the sudden announcements on Afghan troop withdrawals that came out of the White House last week.
In an interview with NPR, Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the agreement reached with Afghan and Taliban officials to leave Afghanistan was conditions based, adding that the United States would responsibly end the war.

After the election, Milley needs to go. Hes been a disloyal subversive thorn in Trumps side. These Generals forget that it is their job to provide advice in private and to support the CinC publically. We had a great PMS (Professional Military Studies - cant say that anymore) lesson as cadets called But Sir, Yes Sir....these generals should try and practice it.
I hope this turns into a big story. “Trump wants the troops home by Xmas. Generals aiming for early next year.” We have been there for 20 years, what’s a few months. Huge success!
Did you actually read Trump’s tweet and General Milley’s comments? There’s a link to the interview transcript in the NYT article. Don’t take the NYT at face value. It’s fake news.
He doesn’t need to endorse it. He just needs to carry it out and make it happen.
I think that Robert OBrien or anyone else can speculate as they see fit, General Milley said. Im going to engage in the rigorous analysis of the situation based on the conditions and the plans that I am aware of and my conversations with the president.

You are right.
Obama worked hard to purge. This is whats left.
You must be new here. Knee-jerk replies calling for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to be fired are much more reasonable.
It’s time to get out. 20 years and nothing’s been gained.
Generals don’t decide policy for any country apart from military dictatorships. Nobody elected this fool to anything. A court martial for insubordination may be in order.
We’re already there. The lat 4 years have shown us that POTUS has very little operational control much of the govermnet. DOJ and military in particular.
A tweet is not an actual order to the Pentagon. Trump may tweet how he wants troops home by Christmas. That may very well be his desire, but until he actually issues an order through the appropriate channels, its not a command to the military forces. Of course, no matter what the president or any official says, the NYT will always frame it in the worst possible way.
How is Trump’s Syria withdrawal coming along? The military brass pretty much ignored that order.
The propanda is blatant. I see it all the time. I read the headlines then go study the source interviews and materials myself. The NYT is literally fake news.
You know, I totally get an adversarial press, but this total twisting of everything the president says? I’ve never seen anything like this before—not even during the Reagan era—and it really bothers me. Why? Because I know there are many folks who still get their news almost exclusively from the propaganda media. They may vote for Biden thinking they are doing the right thing without ever really knowing what exactly they voted for (immoral, rob the rich socialism—read the Biden plan!).
lodi90: “How is Trumps Syria withdrawal coming along? The military brass pretty much ignored that order.”
What order? Did the president actually issue one?
A tweet is not an order.
Okay.
So fire him if this article is true.

How many patriots apologize for walking with the President?

Of course he issued an order and then tweeted it!!
Lose the support of the American people and see how long it is before the troops come home. Vietnam showed how that works. The public has had enough of these overseas interventions. There is no reasonable excuse for being in Afghanistan. What reasons existed were gone years ago. Wonder if the general thinks the radicals will support keeping troops deployed? Not!

No, Milley giving an interview to the Democrats at NPR is creating conflict. There’s nothing to be gained there.
