The U.N.’s World Food Program wins Nobel Peace Prize

OSLO, Norway - The United Nations’ World Food Program on Friday won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger and food insecurity around the globe.

The organization provided assistance to almost 100 million people in 88 countries around the world last year.

“I think this is the first time in my life I’ve been without words,” WFP’s head David Beasley told The Associated Press from Niger. “I was just so shocked and surprised.”

Beasley said he found out about the award from a WFP media officer who had just been informed by the AP.

The Nobel Committee said that the coronavirus pandemic has added to the hunger faced by millions of people around the world, and called on governments to ensure that WFP and other aid organizations receive the financial support necessary to feed them.

“With this year’s award, the (Committee) wishes to turn the eyes of the world to the millions of people who suffer from or face the threat of hunger,” said Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Nobel Committee, announcing the award in Oslo. “The World Food Program plays a key role in multilateral cooperation in making food security an instrument of peace.”

“The World Food Program contributes daily to advancing the fraternity of nations mentioned in Alfred Nobel’s will,” she said.

"Anyone who thought that Trump had even the slightest chance of winning was delusional."

I've read his nominations are for next year. Still, with 3 nominations, he won't get it. Since the Peace Prize has been given to the terrorist Arafat and to Obama for doing nothing, it's now worthless.

LOL! They snubbed Greta!

Scoldilocks' response after this snub: "How dare you!"

Food Program?
Someone remind me how many grains of wheat or rice the UN have themselves grown by this year?

Too busy killing each other with machetes. I decided years ago that after those trillions (the “t” is accurate), since they’re still starving, let them starve.

It’s obviously the preferred state to sit on your ass, shrivel up and die in the dirt.

Some deluded souls actually thought they might give it to Trump.

Ever since Obama won it for doing nothing, it has no meaning. I haven’t yet voted and I would have dropped over dead had they given it to Trump. So I better run down and cast my ballot before they get me.

Draw borders that put half of France and Germany into the same nation and see how well that country works. Or how about all of Poland in Russia?

People here keep acting like African nations are some local creations and the people there are just too dumb to just make it work.

It is noble and good to feed the hungry. But, what does feeding the hungry have to do with peace?

“The U.N.’s World Food Program wins Nobel Peace Prize”

And now, if the U.N. would actually move the food out of their warehouses and distribute it to the starving people. I wonder how much corrupt dictators made by hoarding the food and selling it?

The more we send by essentially dumping it into their economy, the less they can develop their own local markets.

Oh, and that corruption and crime thing too.

The Nobel Peace prize organization proves once again that it is a joke. It gives Obama a prize for just existing but when Trump actually makes a break through for peace in the Middle East, something decades of leaders were unable to do, they give it to a corrupt organization. What a joke.
