In Nagorno-Karabakh, on the one hand, Shiite Azerbaijan, whose people are a large minority in Iran, is fighting, and on the other, Christian Armenia, a trading partner that helps Tehran circumvent sanctions. In the shadow of the fear of unrest by the Azeri minority, the regime is treading a thin rope

The fighting between Azerbaijan and the Armenian forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave in the Caucasus entered its 11th day this morning (Wednesday), and a ceasefire is still not in sight. More than 200 people have already been killed and hundreds more injured in the current round of fighting, and last week the first leak of gunfire into neighboring Iran and the injury of a child there from shrapnel were also reported. Can someone tell me what side were supposed to be on, and why?

Armenia, largely Christian, is backed by Russia and Iran, Greek mercenaries, and very distantly, the US. Their military arms are largely Russian.
.........
Azerbaijan, largely Muslim is heavily backed by Turkey (a NATO partner to the US), and Syrian-Turkic mercenaries. Their military arms are largely Western and US and Israeli.
........
Turkey has now taken over the air war command and control, for Azerbaijan.
........
They are fighting over control of a disputed area between Armenia and Azerbaijan that is about 80% ethnic Armenian.
The back story is that this is Turkeys continuation of their genocidal extermination of the Armenians who took the side of Russia in the Russo-Turkish War of 18771878.
.........
The Armenian ambassador to Israel has been recalled in protest over Israel supplying drones to Azerbaijan.
..........
So, we have a Jewish country supplying arms to a Shia Muslim country to attack a Christian country that is backed by Shia Muslim and Christian countries.
.......
And I thought Syria was complicated.
