"Saturday Night Live" paid audience members $150 each to attend its season premiere on Saturday in an effort to comply with New York City coronavirus guidelines, according to The New York Times.
The program, which was broadcast live before an indoor studio audience at Rockefeller Center in New York City despite Broadway being shuttered and the city's movie theaters being closed, was hosted by comedian Chris Rock and featured Jim Carrey's first performance as Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
New York COVID-19 guidelines say media productions can only host an audience if comprised of paid individuals for the production company. By paying the audience, NBC was able to count them essentially as employees.
"SNL has confirmed that they followed the reopening guidance, including selecting audience members through a third-party screening and casting process and compensating them for their time as paid audience members," New York City Health Department spokesman Jonah Bruno said in a statement.
The guidelines also say the show can only have an audience at 25 percent capacity while never exceeding 100 people.
Audience members, who consisted of first responders, were administered temperature checks, wore masks and took a rapid test before entering Studio 8-H for the show's 46th season launch.

That’s cab fare in NYC..................
Yes, SNL has gotten so bad that they have to pay the audience to attend.
I watch SNL even less than the NBA
Dying gasps
It’s funny because i wouldn’t take $150 dollars to watch it in my living room...
How much did they pay them to laugh?
The screening questionnaire:
_____ I am a radical Trump hating Marxist.
(Must be checked in order to qualify.)
Now you're talking REAL money.
And this kind of fecal matter is why I haven’t watched S aturday N ight L iberals in years !
Is SNL still on the air?
I might tune in to watch their cold opening on the first Saturday in November.
It would buy a marginal two-star-plus hotel room for the night. I think the last time I was in NY City....for the wife and I to have a ‘good’ dinner, I ended up with a $200k (tip included). I wouldn’t even say it was terrific or excellent...just good.
Will they pay me for a thousand miles (and at least one channel on TV) of social distancing?
Clean sheets extra........................
Look for both the state and city to come after each and every one of the audience members for taxes on that $150. Its bound to happen.
