Adam Silver sat down for an interview with Rachel Nichols on NBA Countdown earlier this week, and indicated that the social justice messaging that you see on the courts and the backs of players jerseys will be largely left off the floor next season:
Here is the relevant question and answer:
Rachel Nichols: The NBA has certainly been the most visible billion-dollar organization championing social justice and civil rights. As you noted in your press conference the other day, though, that has not been universally popular. How committed are you to being that going forward?
Adam Silver: Were completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality and thats been the case going back decades. Its part of the DNA of this league. How it gets manifested is something were gonna have to sit down with the players and discuss for next season. I would say, in terms of the messages you see on the court and our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time when we began these discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer. My sense is therell be somewhat a return to normalcy, that those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor.
And I understand those people who are saying Im on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game.

I'm not on your side, Adam, and I don't want to watch a basketball game. Ever.
Did he clear this with the inmates running the asylum?
After shelling out to pay their pampered, spoiled brats will they even have enough money left to turn the lights on? I used to be a big fan of the NBA, but I’ve found I can live without them.

What these clowns are incapable of grasping is that the value of spectator sports is that they are an escape from the cares of the world, like POLITICS.
Take that away, and there is no need for them.
Because their ratings have gone into the toilet. Ive been a Laker fan for the longest time, even I can’t watch the social justice phony baloney BS
going back decades? WTF ?
And I understand those people who are saying Im on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game.
Does he understand people who are saying they don’t agree with all this Black Lives Matter unrest and violence, but want to watch a basketball game? What is he saying? Is he saying you have to be on board with all this Black Lives Matter business, to be a basketball fan????
Will they have any fans left to buy tickets?
WAY WAY 2LATE...........I am so proud of Americans sticking to their guns and blowing these ASSHATS off giving them the middle finger just as they did to us!!!6£
yes, the ratings have cratered for the NBA playoffs.
We hear what Adam Silver said. But what wasn’t said may be as significant. I’m sure there was a lot privately said behind closed doors, about how these ratings being so low, will negatively affect the TV contracts which give the NBA so much money in the first place. Networks won’t be willing to pony up nearly as much for the rights to NBA games if these ratings are going to be so bad.
And I’m sure things were said privately, about how not all NBA fans agree with Black Lives Matter, and don’t believe all this structural racism talk. And I’m sure things were said that with the NBA taking sides on a contentious social/political issue, is costing them fan support.
tell your coaches to shut up lecturing us on how "bad" they think America is as they make millions "coaching" overpaid athletes.
stand up to china on human rights issues.
do those things and we can talk....maybe.
Back to the days of the $45,000 a year contracts.
Once a scum, always a scum.
And the days of showing the Finals tape-delayed
I used to really enjoy, follow and buy tickets to the NBA. I made sure I had the right TV subscriptions and followed stats on NBA.com and ESPN.com. Now. Today. No subscriptions and never look up stats. Why. I just. Don’t. Give. A. Shit. About a bunch of spoiled brat millionaires squealing about social injustice. F off every one of you. I watched basketball as an escape from politics. You idiots in the NBA ruined it. Forever. Hope you go bankrupt. NFL? Same. NCAA? Same. Let’s change the sports landscape permanently.
