Cook Political Report shifts Ohio, Iowa to 'toss up' in presidential race

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report shifted the presidential race in Ohio and Iowa to a "toss up" on Tuesday from "lean Republican," citing recent polls showing a tightening race between President Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

The independent online newsletter had moved the race in both states to "lean Republican" from "likely Republican" in mid-June but on Tuesday said it decided to shift the states to a toss up as recent polls show a close race.

Ohio and Iowa, two states Trump carried in 2016, are more critical for Trump to win than for Biden. Biden doesn't necessarily need to carry either state to reach 270 electoral votes, but Trump likely can't win without either state, Cook noted.

word is POTUS stopped all tv buys in Ohio and Iowa. So either he is confident he doesn’t need the ads there because the states are a win OR he will elsewhere to offset.

thoughts?

It really is not good. You can hates polls, and I do. But they are data points that have to be considered.

I’m not seeing many Biden signs here in Iowa even where there are signs for other Democrats in local and state races. I don’t expect to see many Biden signs in the suburban town where I live, but I got lost today (happens a lot) in a part of town where one would expect to see Biden signs. There were no campaign signs of any kind. Interesting.

I had to say it but if we’re toast in Ohio, then we’re toast period. Not sure what other states we could pick up to offset that state.

For example, even if the campaign were able to flip Minnesota, it wouldn’t make up for Ohio.

I hope not. But that was not my point. This has not been a good couple of days for Trump, largely because his media enemies are running out ridiculous polling data. I am truly hoping Trump has some tricks/surprises up his sleeve to blunt this scheme.

Respected election handicapper calls election for Clinton

10/14/2016

One of the most respected election handicappers in the country says the presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is now “over,” with victory assured for Clinton, the Democratic nominee.

“Take a close look at the new Fox News poll,” tweeted Charlie Cook, publisher of the Cook Political Report.

“This race is OVER.”

“Poll was devastating for Trump, from start to finish,” Cook said via email on Friday.

“Trial heats, favorable/unfavorable, candidate attributes, trust on handling issues, role model for children — all horrific for Trump.”

It’s the weight of evidence, now, that leads Cook to declare publicly that Trump has no path to the White House.

From what I’ve seen, even places like Michigan have more mail vote requests from Republicans that Dems.

I think the early request numbers are in, and they look really bad for Dems.

Why would Trump stop ad buys if he was down only 1-3 points. That’s when you buy ads.

Iowa Boy here. Rural Iowa is very Red, but the bigger cities, greater Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, pretty Blue.

I’d spend some money there if I were Trumps advisor.

Calling all Nancy boy pearl clutchers..... Please hurry to this thread and tell us all how bad it is… How doomed we are… How over it is… How we might as well quit… How serious this is… Her numbers don’t lie… How we are fools for thinking otherwise… This is the end…

.....
And then please follow up with reminding us how totally wrong you always are and always have been.

That is all.
