In many ways, having Jill Biden as the next first lady of the United States wouldn't be revolutionary. The 69-year-old educator would be similar to most of the presidential spouses before her: She's a straight, White woman who's been around politics for decades, and holds some influence over her partner's decisions (see: Kamala Harris).
But if Joe Biden is elected, Jill Biden as FLOTUS would be different in one very simple and very fundamental way: She would keep her day job. No matter what happens in November, Biden says she plans to continue teaching at Northern Virginia Community College, just as she did during the eight years she served as second lady. That means Biden, an English professor with four degrees, just might become the first professor FLOTUS.
To even consider this as notable shows how anachronistic the role of America's "first lady" really is. But no woman in the position's 231-year history has ever held a paying job while also living in the White House. In a C-SPAN interview, former first lady Laura Bush said that this is "the real question": It's not about whether first ladies should be paid -- Bush thinks they shouldn't -- but whether they should be able to continue their professional careers.
"That's what we'll have to come to terms with," Bush said. "Should she have a career during the years her husband is president in addition to serving as first lady?"
The Bidens have been married more than 40 years, and in that time Jill Biden has been a supportive spouse and a sounding board. This is her husband's third time running for President, in addition to his 36 years in the Senate and eight years serving as Barack Obama's VP.

I have friends who teach at community colleges. Community colleges serve a valuable purpose and I don't want to disparage that but NOVA isn't exactly the big leagues for a "professor" if you know what I mean.
I assume that a Jill got her position as an English "professor" with a Ph.D. in education for the same reason that Hunter became a director of a Ukrainian oil company despite having no experience in the industry or speaking the language. If their last name hadn't been Biden neither would have even been considered.
We have a couple of Piled higher and Deepers in the family who insist upon being called doctor.

Au contraire. Jill does not have a Ph. D. She has the Ed. D. This is the kind of degree that school superintendents get to qualify for a raise. Dissertation title, “Student Retention at the Community College: Meeting Students’ Needs.”
I have a Ph.D. and don’t need to force regular folks to call me doctor (did use doctor of Professor in my academic work). Calling her doctor is a cruel joke on me and you.

Maybe not. Like Edith Wilson she could pre=screen matters of state, his mail, and today his email and phone calle, then transmit Joe’s decisions. The 25th Amendment, lock non friendly doctors out and pack the Supreme Court with friendly justices. Of course she’d have to fight it out with Kamala. I think I’m being sarcastic.
Jill Biden would take up where the Obamas left off, serving as the National Scold, whose job it is to hector Americans about how bad they are.
Ed.D. is not a trivial degree, but it’s also not a Ph.D. Bill Cosby has an Ed.D.
Throwing around her “doctor” title because kindergarten lives matter.
Hubby has a PhD in Physics, and we had been married two years before my parents even knew he was a “doctor”. He never used the title except when it strictly related to his career. Some are pretty uppity about it and insist on being called, “Doctor”.
Dr. Jill can work their as long as she wants, she won’t have anything else to do.
