Secret Service agents and medical professionals were aghast Sunday night at President Donald Trump's Sunday evening trip outside the hospital where he is being treated for the coronavirus, saying the president endangered those inside his SUV for a publicity stunt.

I find it difficult to accept much of what the SF Chronicle says.
While I can understand the concern from the Secret Service about doing something “impulsive”; but my guess is the driver and other folks said, “Sure, that would be cool.”

BS. Walter Reed medical personnel approved the drive, proper PPE was provided, and WR also approved of the precautions taken. Plus, Trump was in his enclosed vehicle, not rolling through the crowds with windows open ... sheesh.
The SS has been with Trump all along, including the trip to the hospital when he had a fever & other symptoms - I doubt they are ‘aghast’. The LEFTIST doctors (and there are plenty of them) are the only ones with their hair on fire.

“Aghast” is exactly the kind of flare you add to a fake news article projecting your own fantastical political desires about people who are supposedly speaking anonymously. It’s a word you’d find in fiction, and that’s not irony.
Let me point out, that Trump has and has had secret service all day every day. They have had the virus as well. If Trump were in the hospital or in his car, there are still secret service there. There are about 80 people in the white house each day. So there are no more or less secret service for trump as he goes in his car to the fans outside the hospital.
And it was not just a stunt. Trump did it to make the press look stupid by saying he was worse off than he was. Trump has been on camera every day. The press can see how well he is. And yet there are some in the liberal press saying he is at deaths door. Or that he is not well enough to be president. And then he goes out and waves to his supporters. And they look stupid.

Why not say instead that he simply wanted to say “thanks” to those who had supported him by being outside the hospital for three days?

The doctor quoted in the article (as is one of the authors) is the same as the one quoted in my earlier thread* - he’s a CNN medical advisor - Dr. James (AKA “Karen”) Phillips,

It also probably required all of 10 minutes total for them to be in the car together.
