Manufacturing here in Western Maryland, PA and WV are hurting for workers. Just now starting to recover after paying folks $600 a week to sit at home.
A local FedEx is paying folks $22hr to sling packages. McDonalds is offering $15hr to watch beef cook.
And unemployment is already below 8%. Much, much better than the dog years under Obama and Biden. Trump has cut unemployment IN HALF from the high a few months ago.
Same. Here in SW Missouri the various plants are crying for help. And yes, the word I get from the men running those plants place the blame on the subsidization of laziness by the Feds. That really was a dumb move that didn’t take human nature into account.
The package slinging is part time, so no benefits.
The Labor Force participation rate is 61.7, down from 63.2 from last year.
None of this is Trump’s fault, but if you think everything is okay, you are sorely mistaken.
Airlines, cruises, restaurants, bars, hotels, tourism, entertainment, real estate, etc. have debts to be paid.
How many haven’t paid rent/mortgage in a number of months?
What happens when the “free” government money stops?
It is just amazing what lowering taxes does!
Fedex has medical for part timers
You sure?
The same thing happened when the fracking Industry came into Pa. the lack of trained people created issues...so they began training people via various locations and signing up for...
So systemic racism and racist hiring practices having got to them yet
I had a meeting at FedEx a few years ago and toured their Memphis hub one of the nights I was there. I wouldnt be surprised if 80% of the part-time staff working the overnight shift were students at the University of Memphis.
Here in SC, employees on unemployment who refused to go back to work when offered can keep it going until their hearing with the commission which is backed up months. Many were fired by mail. Friend had a few at his factory who recently had their hearings. Their unemployment was cut off and they’ll have to pay all of the money back from the time they refused. They were arrogant enough to think they would get to keep all of the money. The factory will never hire them back.
He says now most of their replacement employees are serial killer types.
I am old enough to remember how this chapter played out in the first Reagan administration. They said he was heartless and his party suffered a major shellacking in the 1982 midterms. We all know what happened two years later.
One could also consider it a red flag to work part time making less money than on unemployment while not increasing your actual career field’s skill set. They might also see you as desperate, and willing to work for less.
They might be hard workers, but they don’t understand incentive or opportunity cost.
Then you’re old enough to not understand many younger people.
Many people will take $800 a week unemployment over $800 a week for 40 hours.
Thanks for the information.
Kids think robotics will replace machinist jobs, but they said the same thing with the introduction of CNC machine tools. So far technology has only improved the higher skilled positions in the trade and made the jobs more fun.
At some point robotics and machine learning may replace all of us but the workers either building and repairing complex things will be harder to replace.
The implication there are no willing or capable workers in the United States is severely flawed.
