Noha Kassab, CEO of Kassab Jewelers, said her family-owned store was was broken into and looted early in the morning on May 30. This was during the beginning stages of what would lead to more than 100 days of protest in Portland.
"I started looking on my phone to see who was in my store, it was bunch of people going into the store, broke glass, it was the most painful, disheartening experience I ever faced," said Kassab.
The store owner said they are still calculating the costs, but estimates $2.5 million in damages.
"Im not someone who came to this country with money. I came with an American dream. To see my American dream destroyed and it could have been preventable, is disheartening," said Kassab.
Kassab filed tort claim notice with the city in mid-September. She alleges Portland leaders, "failed to plan or prepare for, and failed to adequately protect, downtown businesses."

Sue the mayor and the city council personally.
I disagree...they absolutely should. There should be a pain level. It would be better to sue individuals, but I suspect there is difficulty doing that.
Well, it seems she chose poorly.
What are you implying that she should do?!
But this one could be interesting with a Mayor basically inviting the rioters and ordering his police to stand down.
Who did you vote for, Noha? This will determine whether you deserved it or not.
A weighted justice system won’t dispense pain.
Portland has been voting for this for years. In 2007 a 112 year old fur business had to close due to protest at it’s downtown store. The city said it was their fault for not mediating with the protesters.
Eh, if all the victims get is government money and the elected people don’t feel personal pain, it won’t make any difference I guess.
We know how they feel about handing out tax money. The more the merrier.
It really pays to migrate to the United States and sponsor leftist politics in local governments, eh?
My wife and I have mentioned this several times. Why no lawsuits? Where is the media interviewing the business owners?
I think the more lawsuits the better. These liberals need to be held accountable. I’m so glad that the proud boys are going to sue Biden and I can’t remember who else. And that Linwood is helping Kyle Rittenhouse and they are going to sue Facebook and the Biden campaign. Apparently they use an ad with Kyle in it as a political ploy.
Some politicians want to lift the limited immunity granted to police departments. I’d say, lift immunity granted to government in general. It’s a slippery slope. Either you protect the rights of everyone, or no one. Choose law and order, or libertarian-anarchy. The only in between amounts to unequal protections and a multi-tier justice system.
Kassab is a very good name in the Portland Metro area. I’m glad they are suing.

Sue the mayor and the city council personally.
Hire a national A$$ kicking attorney to do it.
Yes, I sure hope Kyle Rittenhouse can nail them to the wall like Sandmann did.
