Just how bad is the ammo crunch right now? This bad.
Scottsdale-based ammunition company Ammo Incorporated is facing an $80.1 million order backlog amid record demand for ammunition.
Were working right now seven days a week, 24 hours a day in all the manufacturing plants, said CEO Fred Wagenhals.
Ouch. The good news, if there is any to be found here, is that ammunition companies like Ammo Incorporated are now investing millions of dollars in infrastructure upgrades to increase their output. If manufacturers felt like this was only a short-term run on ammunition, they might keep their cash in reserve rather than spending it on new equipment, but at least for Ammo Inc, thats not the case.
We just bought 2.8 million dollars worth of machinery and equipment last week to increase our production and increase our volume, Wagenhals said.
According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the year has already seen a boom in gun purchases, up 95% in the first half of 2020 compared to the same time period of 2019.
But ammo sales skyrocketed even higher, up 139% compared to 2019 during that same time period. The start was the pandemic that was going on. But there was always that fear of the election. Of whos going to be elected of the next President of the United States, Wagenhals said. But thirdly, I think the unrest in this country right now. And as youve seen in a lot of cities, the looting and the burning, and I think people are just scared.
Wagenhals is right about whats driving the increase in sales for both firearms and ammunition, and unfortunately no matter who wins in November I think theres a growing expectation among many Americans that the unrest, looting, and burning will continue. That will likely keep sales strong well into 2021, and hopefully other manufacturing companies will be making similar investments in their own operations in order to increase the availability of ammunition.
Its also worth noting that Wagenhals says production lines are operating 24/7 right now. Thats an indication that supply chain problems with ammunition components may be easing, allowing the manufacturing facilities to work at full capacity instead of being limited by the amount of raw materials that they can get their hands on.
The problem right now seems to be a simple matter of supply not being able to keep up with demand, and its good to see manufacturers being proactive in addressing the problem by increasing supply rather than waiting for demand to subside. With just one company looking at $80-million in back-ordered sales, however, it could still be some time before the crunch for consumers lessens and a decent supply of ammunition can be found on store shelves.
“When all the case ammo is gone black powder will rule.”
Keep dreaming. There is a ridiculous amount of ammo out there and far, far less black powder.
Hey you are complaining about primers.
Not necessarily a bad one - there are issues with lead toxicity showing up at even civilian firing ranges and test facilities these days.
Foreign militaries have either already sold off their surplus or have budget constraints that won’t let them replace that ammo if they sold it off.
There is still the Obama ban from his administration that bars doing business with pretty much all the Russian firms making ammo.
For anyone reading this thread, who has money to spend but can't find ammo - please consider sending $10 or $20 to a pro-gun candidate, BEFORE the election. That will help get prices back to normal, more than anything else you can do. And you will have earned the thanks of patriots everywhere...
Obama closed down the last lead processing plant in the USA—In Missouri—when he was in office.

If Democrats get the White House, they’ll implement plans against ammunition supplies. If they get the Senate, too, they’ll severely regulate and restrict supplies and raise costs.
President Trump has certainly brought Manufacturing back!
Promises Made. Promises. Kept.
Lots of help from the Socialist Democrats, though, with all of their burning, looting and pillaging! ;)
Keep your powder dry, Boys. There will be a lot more burning, looting and pillaging, I’m predicting. :(
I’m a geologist...there’s plenty of lead in North America. Leadville Colorado was the lead capital of the USA in the 19th century. Nevada is also loaded with lead deposits as it Utah and Colorado. The EPA is the reason our lead mines are shut down not lack of resources. The best bullets don’t have lead in them anyways they are monometal alloys. Barnes, Hornady, Berger just to name a few all their best most efficient high BC bullets of match grade accuracy are all monometal lathe cut bullets. I personally load 7mag, 300WM, 338LM, 25_06 and 30_06 not a single bullet going down my pacnor barrles have any lead in them. For range level plinking with 9mm lead free fmj are the way to go no one wants to breath lead dust inside the new green fmj also do not lead up your barrels and I can load 9mm lead free fmj cheaper than I can buy even before the panic of Wal-Mart 115gr white box leaded fmj. Simply put the days of lead in bullets is coming to an end.
Are You Serious?!?

Thanks for the information on bullets! Very interesting.
That is why we MUST elect a Republican House and Senate and re-elect President Trump!
US Military ammo has moved away from lead.
Didnt Gabby Giffords have something to do with that when she was still in office?
She may have, but the program for lead-free rounds started back in 1995.

Turns out that the M855A1 program resulted in a projectile that was *better* than the lead-cored M855 it replaced.
