Huffington Post is on the chopping block as Verizon seeks to sell the controversial media company. According to a report in the New York Post, Verizon is shopping around, hoping to find another media conglomerate that is interested in the property. Thus far, there are no takers.
Verizon acquired Huffington Post as part of its acquisition of AOL in 2015. The $4.4 billion purchase included AOLs internet service and its online video services, which was the acquisition target. As a side bonus, the telecom giant also obtained news sites such as TechCrunch, Engadget, and The Huffington Post.
Though TechCrunch and Engadget have remained strong, Huffington Post has faltered. The site reportedly loses millions of dollars each year, sources told the New York Post.
For the new buyer to turn a profit, it will have to slash the editorial team and other paid staff in half. This task is made even more difficult because the staff is backed by the Writers Guild of America East union. Verizon reportedly is looking for a buyer to do the dirty work of firing people and dealing with severance packages, said a source who spoke anonymously to the New York Post.

Maybe they could get Matt Drudge to buy it?
It’s a filthy leftist rag. Hope it ceases to exist.
That’s a shame.
“...For the new buyer to turn a profit, it will have to slash the editorial team...”
~~~
Haha! Perfect.
Lefty editorials don’t sell to the greater populus. Also, it’s not good for ad revenue.
Maybe they should just write articles on Mesothelioma and Covid liability so they can rake in the contextual ad revenue
He’s looking for investors too.
now is the chance for all the RATS that work there to buy the damn thing and Own The Means Of Production they are always prattling on about...
but of course, they know better
[Maybe they could get Matt Drudge to buy it?]
That’s an excellent idea.
What? No bullfighter picture?
You’re slacking. :)
Good to see you, FRiend.
Hopefully Verizon will divest of all their media outlets. Yahoo needs to go too.
Besides, the wailing and gnashing of teeth and childish temper tantrums the left would throw would be well worth it. The entertainment value would be off the charts.
Along with being hopelessly leftist, the writing is sub-par, the topics uninteresting - Twitter, celebrities, re-writes/summaries of other publications ‘stories.’ It’s garbage.
The only one laughing about this besides us is Ariana Huffinton.
How could a POS like the Huntington Post lose millions of dollars per year? Their expenses would seem to be some server access, a few geeks, and whatever pittance they pay their contributors.
ML/NJ
I thought they were mostly unpaid - at least when Arianna was running it?? Maybe that was just the contributors.
Yahoo (also owned by Verizon) is the #1 news site and 5th most visited website overall, and at least and half to 2/3 of their “News” articles is from the Huffington Post.
So how is the Huffington post failing to make money with so many views?
The Blog Apocalypse must be worse than reported. That is blogs are what newspapers were 20 years ago. Old people read blogs on their computer, young people watch videos on their phone.
Huffington Post still exists??
