On Saturday, in the throes of Americas turbulent 2020 election, thousands of Christians gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Return, a calling to repentance and prayer for healing.
Dueling rallies and worship services on either side of the Washington Monument attracted crowds of thousands. Samaritans Purse President Franklin Graham held one rally with Vice President Mike Pence in front of the Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon, while Jonathan Chan and Kevin Jessup held The Return rally starting Friday night and continuing throughout Saturday in front of the U.S. Capitol building.
The rallies focused on a theme of repentance and prayer, rejecting sin and returning to God in turbulent times. Pence paraphrased 2 Chronicles 7:14, in which God promised King Solomon, If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
We stand today on an ancient promise that Americans have claimed throughout our history that if His people who are called by his name will humble themselves and pray and turn, He will do like hes always done through much more challenging times in the life of this nation Hell hear from Heaven and hell heal this land, this one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, Pence declared.
The vice president declared that prayer is a great American tradition, citing Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and noting that President Donald Trump has observed many times that America is a nation of believers, and youve proved that again today.

I am sure that CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, and the rest will be all over this.

I have a question:
“If all those folks in attendance were, as it looked, to be upright full ball of wax christians, and have been all along, what could they possibly be repenting of?”
If they talk, walk, and act like they think christians should be doing, they don’t have anything to be repentive about!
Unless, maybe, they think they need to be repentive, for everybody else, which is just plain weird.

I watched the whole thing on Billy Graham’s You Tube Channel, so I honestly don’t know if any of the major news outlets covered it.
Several people on the thread mentioned that there were no media there to speak of, so there’s that.

John 8:7 New American Standard Bible
But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them,
“He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”
So you claim to be without sin?
These men and women have changed their minds(repent) and decided correctly that they need a savior.

You don’t know Christianity, repentance or humility. But you had best learn soon.

Re learn soon ...why, to please you?
As an American, living in the land where Jefferson said a man’s ‘religion’ is his own business ... no, I don’t HAVE TO!!
To: MAAG
Re claim to be without sin ...
That is a dichotomy ...
First, xians say they are perfect in christ, then they take a breath, and then declare that they are full of ‘sin’! Which is it?
This declaration of part b makes part a a lie.
This is hypocrisy, and I’m not buying it.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

No!
I asked you directly, WHICH IS IT, SIN OR PERFECT!!??
And you throw a piece of scripture at me.
That is a cut-and-paste of a moron.
I cannot believe that you could possibly be a moron, so, TRY AGAIN!
To: Terry L Smith
You are very hostile.
Which is a sin...
The verse I posted shows that the Christians who are being addressed are still sinning, at least sometimes. That is all. You should glean from there that Christians do still at least occasionally sin. Thats all.
So what is the difference between a non Christian and a Christian. Christians should be sinning less, and less often, and less seriously, and never live in the sin, and repent of the sin. This is the effect of the indwelling of the Holy in us. He sanctifies. Jesus told us to pray forgive us our sins. Again, He was speaking to His people. And I like nonChristians we are assured of forgiveness.
I could cite some verses to illustrate these truths but they seem to upset you.
Pray against anger.

I have a question:
If all those folks in attendance were, as it looked, to be upright full ball of wax christians, and have been all along, what could they possibly be repenting of? If they talk, walk, and act like they think christians should be doing, they dont have anything to be repentive about!

Terry, we will one day be perfected in Christ, but until then we still sin. The very fact we admit we are still sinners shows we need Christ. It is the shedding of Christs blood that covers our sins. Thus we will have Christ as our propitiation. He is sufficient enough for us to be forgiven so we will not be judged with the unbelievers on Judgment day. Without our faith in Christ we will die in our sins like everyone, including you.
Just because I put my faith in Christ does not make me inhuman and immune from sinful desires and acts of sin, it means I can now go to Christ and ask HIM to interceded for be before GOD the Father so that HE will forgive me because I am a child of Christ.
And yes, I must ask for forgiveness daily, because even the act of flipping off a driver who cut me off in the intersection in a moment of lapse is a sin. The very act of lust over a woman who is beautiful and desirous is a sin. Stealing a cookie that is not mine, or getting so angry at the Democrats I want them to pay with pain, is a sin.
Im to love not hate. I need to love them Like Christ loved those who scourged and crucified Him. But I find it very difficult not to want to destroy their very existence. Even the thought of what I want to happen to them is a sin, and I must repent of it.
While my flesh will always desire the pleasures of sin, my spiritual self will continually count on Christ to make me stronger by the day, so that I can resist the temptation to do things I know are wrong but too weak to resist at times.
I may never reach the point of sinlessness, in fact I know I will not, but at least I have the best lawyer in the business when my time comes for me to face the All Mighty Judge, GOD. Christ, who died for me 2000 years before I was born, will stand before the Judge and say, Father forgive him, because I paid for his sin. That is what Christ did, HE paid my penalty in full on the cross. All I need, all you need, is to believe in HIS sacrifice to be saved. Then the ULTIMATE Judge will forgo the judgement we deserve and thus we will be granted an eternal existence in GODs presence.
What will you count on when the day of Judgement comes? Good luck, because without Christ you will burn in the eternal fire of damnation. Which is the second and final death.
So you see, as a Christian I must admit I am weak and unable to be perfect, but thats OK, because as I continually come to GOD, in Christs name, admitting my failure to be perfect, I know He will forgive me.
Amazes me how so many are willing to perish, just because they refuse to believe. Its easy to do. The rest will be done by Christ.
If you do, and truly mean it in your heart, thats it. You will be saved.
The rest?
Well, like us, Christ will start a good thing in you and in time you too will be asking for Him to stand in the gap for your stupid little sin of flipping off that driver who cut you off on the way to work.
Just believe. Simple. No mountain to climb, no rituals to accomplish.
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
