Just when you thought 2020 couldnt get any worse, several communities in Texas are under a do not use water advisory due to fears that a brain-eating amoeba could be in their tap water.
According to the CDC, the amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, is most commonly found in warm freshwater systems such as lakes, rivers and hot springs in warmer parts of the U.S. People often get infected by swimming in these areas, but the CDC lists contaminated tap water and inadequately chlorinated swimming pool water as very rare instances.
The amoeba infects people by entering the body through the nose and can travel to the brain, causing infection - a rare, but devastating condition known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

Of 145 documented infections up to 2018, there were only 4 survivors.

Years ago some people in Mississippi died of brain amoeba from using tap water in their netti pot.
I was having a sinus infection and told my doctor I would use distilled water in my netti pot because these people died.
She said “Well, that’s in the South. We have good water here in Seattle.”
A year later a woman in Seattle died of brain amoeba from her netti pot. Do not put tap water in your nose, no matter where you live.

The government, in general, does not want you to swim in the water This is for a simple reason and that they dont want the liability if you drown Thats if theyre going to allow swimming theyre going to have to have a designated swimming area. Post signage. Etc Now. Ive seen the government use all kinds of scary 🧫 bacteria algae amoeba 🦠 you name it signs posted near lakes to try to scare you and not want to swim in the water. Even if youre one of those people that would find somewhere where nobody would see you and go swimming. Understand, factually , that almost all of this is government claims is complete BS And the water is safe to swim in If you want to be extra careful just dont let water get in any of your orifices

Well, thats in the South. We have good water here in Seattle.
I don't know about amoebas, but the tap water in Everett, WA was as good as any water, bottled or tap, that I have drunk in my entire life. Here in Phoenix, we get our water from a kiosk as the tap water has issues.
