Democrats in of the House of Representatives will introduce a bill next week to limit the tenure of U.S. Supreme Court justices to 18 years from current lifetime appointments, in a bid to reduce partisan warring over vacancies and preserve the court's legitimacy.

Again, federal judges shouldn’t be routed into being politicians. There’s obviously too much of that already. I smell old Europe coming from the din.
Requires a Constitutional Amendment.
Article III Sec. 1.
“The judges, both of the supreme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during good behaviour, and shall, at stated times, receive for their services, a compensation, which shall not be diminished during their continuance in office.”
Yup. They also introduced this under Obama when Ruth Buzzy was into her 50th year on the court.
LOL! KIDDING!!!!
Right on Anti...!
Dem internal polling for November must be pretty bad for this to be announced.
IF they are gonna propose that, here is my counter proposal:
1. Senators selected by State legislatures, not popular vote.
2. Senators limited to 2 terms.
3. House Representation set at 1 for every 50,000 CITIZENS. Make Approximately 6700 House members.
4. Representatives limited to 3 terms.
5. Senators and Representatives must provide their own retirement and their own health care. NO PENSIONS.
6. ALL campaign funds must come from registered voters in the district they represent. After campaign, all left over funds distributed to families of service members killed in line of duty.
6. Federal Judges limited to 15 year terms.
7. Can be re-appointed for an additional 10 year term if
a. Less than 60
b. Have not had 3 or more decisions overturned by SCOTUS.
8. SCOTUS terms limited to 25 years or 70 years old.
Hear! Hear!
Not Bab Bee?
If its in constitution for Congress, its unconstitutional for SCOTUS.
Article III of the Constitution says The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour.
No legislation can change that.
Next?

Im surprised it took to the 11th post until someone remembered the lifetime judicial appointment provision of the Constitution.
You first, Crazy Nancy.
Wouldn’t it require a constitutional amendment to term limit SCOTUS (or congress)?
Congress needs to put their own term limits in place first.
Can’t do it except with a constitutional amendment.
In other words ... we know we are about to lose the election.

Yes, they’ve changed their minds on mail-in ballots now. Plus Pelosi reversed course on calling for impeachment again. Dems in retreat.
Here is my Bill: Term limits for Senators of two 6 year terms for a max of 12 years. Term limits for Congress people of four 2 year terms for a max of 8 years.
Then all Senators and Representatives get the exact same medical benefits as members of our Armed Forces. There will be no pensions for these people, only the ability to contribute to a 401(k) plan with maybe a government match of 10%. There will be an allowance of $2,000 per month to cover the cost of renting an apartment in DC and other incidentals excluding any car allowance. Increases in salary will be considered every four years and not to exceed the cost of living increase over the prior four years.
There are a few more that need to be added such as all air flights are not to exceed the cost of a coach ticket, and no use of any government aircraft a la Nancy Pelosi’s government jet rides to and from CA.
Agree....but does show what they’re thinking.
If it’s retroactive, Trump will have a LOT of SCOTUS seats to fill.
Whacko, whacko year. Was it all just theatre from the dems to force a crisis? Don't know.
How about term limits for congress?
How about term limits on every public elected political position? If you were somehow elected dog catcher, two terms and youre done. At the minimum, it purges the lifers.
