Wisconsin authorities investigate trays of mail, absentee ballots found in ditch

Police are investigating how three trays of mail, including absentee ballots, ended up in a ditch in Wisconsin, a swing state whose voters could prove crucial in the upcoming elections.

The Outagamie County Sheriff's Office said the mail was found around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning near a highway and was immediately returned to the U.S. Postal Service, Fox 11 reported.

"The United States Postal Inspection Service immediately began investigating and we reserve further comment on this matter until that is complete," USPS spokesman Bob Sheehan said in a statement.

The incident comes a mere five weeks before the presidential election, which has been steeped in partisan bickering over the system of mail-in and absentee ballots and wavering trust in the alternate system.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, which marked a grim milestone this week of over 200,000 deaths in the U.S., voters are expected to cast ballots by mail in record numbers.

“We expect more than 3 million Wisconsin residents to vote in the November election, which means even more first-time absentee by mail voters,” Meagan Wolfe, the elections commission’s administrator, said in a statement earlier this month.

Wolfe said that before the pandemic, only about 6% of Wisconsin voters cast an absentee ballot by mail. During the state's presidential preference primaries in April, that number jumped to 60% when 1.1 million of the 1.55 million votes were absentee by mail. During the partisan primary in August, Wolfe said approximately 82% of the 867,000 votes cast were absentee, either by mail or in the clerk’s office.

I heard rumors that the Post Office Union had mail in ballots disappear.......

Your federal dollars at work.

Government that is big enough to give you whatever you want, is big enough to take it all away. Even your right to a vote.

Did they check the Trays for Fingerprints before returning them to the Post Office?

There is possibly a Federal Crime involved with this.

Of course we still haven’t heard anything about the Fat Chick on the Bike putting Dog Poop in the Mailboxes of Trump Supporters have we?

It could have been the postie serviced a Trump-leaning route and tossed them OR WORSE, it could be that, with the aid of the postie, the ballots were altered and then placed there.

Severing chain of custody renders every single one of those ballots invalid, without hope of rehabilitation.

The most critical piece of information is omitted in this report. Where those ballots filled in?

The only “good news” here is that the Postal Inspectors don’t mess around. Their conviction rate is the highest of any law enforcement in the US.

If they slap the cuffs on you, you will go to jail.

People don’t realize the capabilities of the PI. If there is a piece of first class mail in there, someone will get a big fine, lose their job and pension, and probably go to jail.

I put nothing past these bas*****. I would wager that this was a staged incident with real mail and “Planted” fraudulent ballots.

Losing a postal service pension would do more for keeping postal workers in line then just about anything else I hope that is part of a conviction for violating the law about destroying first class mail.

Wrong ... they will store them in an abandoned warehouse, else take them out for a boat ride to the middle of Lake Michigan

The local USPS office will know exactly which mail carrier it is by just giving the addresses on the mailings a quick look. That carrier will most likely be immediately fired. At least that’s how it would have worked in FL and MO when my wife was a rural mail carrier. Wisconsin? Who knows. Being that it made the news, I would think that mail carrier is unemployed today.

Post Office employees are UNHINGED anti-Trump. My sister retired from the PO and she is about as far left loony and trump obsessed as can be.
