The 2020 Emmy Awards not only hit their lowest ever viewership on Sunday night, but also managed to score the lowest viewership for any major awards show in history, according to Nielsen.
The award show averaged a 1.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 6.1 million viewers total for ABC, dropping roughly 12 percent from last years total viewership. This years low ratings come after last years historic low for a top TV awards show, during which the host-less ceremony aired on Fox with a 33 percent decline from the previous year.
Last year was the first time the Emmys saw less than 7 million viewers, according to Deadline, but this years results barely cracked 6 million.

Go woke, go broke.
Emmy who?? Never heard of her.
Isn’t this puzzling in a way?
With all of us having experienced lockdowns, being at home more, etc. which you might think would result in more people watching more TV programming, why is viewership down so much?
Why are ratings for sports programming down so much, for the same reason, that more people spending more time at home should result in more TV watching?
LOL! And with black face Kimmel as host....kinda kills the argument of having to “purge” our history doesn’t it.
They really do not care.
The ‘awards show’ is just their own self-congratulatory mutual admiration society annual meeting.
They really couldn’t care less if nobody watched it.
Remember, the ORIGINAL Academy Awards were for members only..............
So, Kimmel now has the distinction of hosting the lowest rated Oscars AND Emmys broadcasts.
What/who is an Emmy?
The message that I get from these shows is “we’re beautiful and virtuous, and you’re ugly and awful.” Not my idea of entertainment.
Huck Follywood
I love the sound of bleeding-heart Hollywood imploding in the morning
I can say Ive never, ever watched a single Emmy show in my life.
Used to watch some of the Oscars. But since I hate the movies and the actors more and more, havent bothered in ages.
Mommy, whats an Emmy?
I didn’t even know it was on this year.
I don’t need “appointment” viewing to be lectured by Kimmel and Anderson.
Why would anyone subject themselves to that?
Numerous reasons. One is that millions of people of all ages play video games. Another is that millions more use streaming services and/or do other things online. Television and movies are gradually being replaced with more interactive entertainment. Plus traditional broadcast TV and movies are seriously awful these days.
That’s an interesting graph. I wonder what caused the huge spike in viewers for the Grammy’s in ‘84 or ‘85. Did Michael Jackson perform, that’s all I can think of.
Who wants to watch a three hour long campaign commercial for Biden and the Democrats? Not most people.
