As the Holy War concerning filling Justice Ginsburg’s seat begins in earnest, one question which the Republican side and President Trump should certainly pose, is what would the Democrats do if the situation were reversed? Without question, they would have a Democrat president nominate a new Justice, and the Democrat Senate majority would rush to confirm that nominee. In all likelihood, Democrat discipline would work to hold their majority together and the nominee would be confirmed.
Already, two Republican Senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, have indicated they would not vote to confirm a newly appointed Justice before Election Day in November. Collins has gone farther, indicating she would want the newly elected president to fill the seat. If the winner is Trump, then in essence she is saying she would consider voting for Trump’s nominee, probably to be announced this week if the confirmation vote were held after Election Day.
Collins has never opposed a Supreme Court nominee proposed by a President from either Party since she took office. She has supported well over 90 per cent of judicial nominees proposed by President Trump. She may be trying to restore her reputation of independence among voters in Maine, who at the moment appear to favor her rival Sara Gideon for the Senate seat being decided in less than 7 weeks. Collins voted for Bret Kavanaugh, and made a principled, comprehensive presentation of her reasons for doing so. Her vote was the one that put Kavanaugh over the top.
For any open-minded voter in Maine, her explanation of her vote and the process she went through before deciding, should have enhanced her reputation. But we are in a resistance culture,

1. It is important that we win; important for this particular seat, but more so for the future of the country
2. we need a strong majority on the Court to swat down Democrat shenanigans with counting the vote
3. we need this seat in play on election day to get out the vote

Of course, which is why she needs to act like a Republican. If she runs as a moderate Dem the actual moderate dem beats her.

Collins is going to vote for Trump’s nominee.
She will lose by double digits if she doesn’t.
“Moderation” is the name of the game in the U.S. Senate. There aren’t even a half-dozen Senators with firm convictions and beliefs.
If they had firm convictions and beliefs they wouldn’t be sitting in a legislative body where they sell themselves out with boring regularity.
Mitch should threaten to remove them from ALL Committee assignments
The best thing for these GOP weak sisters to do is simply stay home and don’t show up for a vote.
I think the best thing they could do is he right thing, Vote for the qualified female candidate that Trump will nominate.
Both of “the ladies” voted to confirm Barrett to the Court of Appeals just three years ago. It would be disingenuous to vote against her now if she is the nominee. They will have to either vote yes or abstain on Barrett, which is a good reason that she should be the nominee.
And the party leadership needs to crack down on this arrogant, blackmailing B-tch who keeps placating liberals instead of doing what is right - including supporting her party.
Placating liberals loses elections for most Republicans. Collins is has a chance to make up the 10% she's down, not by being a better moderate Democrat, but by being a supporter for putting a qualified woman on the court.
