If you can’t deliver a Supreme Court confirmation with a 53-47 Senate majority, then your political party shouldn’t even exist.
Nothing in politics happens without a plan. I suspect this has already been “gamed” by both the Repubs and Dems...The Repubs must believe they have the upper hand hence pressing forward...the Dems realize they’re in a tight squeeze. Overreact and turn off undecided and independent voters...under react and turn off the base. The screws are about to be tightened. Reactions are already known...buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride the next 45 days.
Well, they now want to eliminate the filibuster for everything. That should work equally well for them, and the country.
Trump is playing with house money.
It didn’t have to be is what I told a Dem friend last night. The Dems could certainly have requested Trump to wait, if they had an ounce of political capital left to do so or anything to trade. This is the fruit of a four-year hate campaign in the media and a two-year unthinking resistance in the House to everything Trump wanted to do including such pettiness as not funding a move of troops from Germany (remember that one?), not to mention the seediest and most shameful impeachment sham in American history - this is what scorched-earth politics buys you and they have it coming in spades.
I was surprised that Reid did not reverse that vote during the last day(s) of his Senate tenure as majority leader.
