Minnesota has backed Democratic presidential candidates for nearly half a century and rarely receives much attention during the final stages of the race. This is when campaigns typically focus their resources on more traditional swing states like Florida or Pennsylvania.
But Minnesota will feel like a genuine battleground on Friday as President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, campaign here to mark the beginning of early voting.
Theyre expected to avoid the states most populated areas near Minneapolis to focus on largely white rural and working-class voters, some of whom shifted to Republicans for the first time in 2016. Trump will be in Bemidji, about 200 miles (320 kilometers) north of Minneapolis, while Biden will swing through Duluth, on the banks of Lake Superior and close to the Wisconsin border.
Since narrowly losing Minnesota in 2016, Trump has emphasized the state in hopes that a victory this year could offset losses in other states. He has visited regularly and kept a close eye on issues of particular importance to rural corners of the state. Hes reversed an Obama administration policy prohibiting the development of copper-nickel mining and has bailed out soybean, corn and other farmers who have been hurt by trade clashes with China.
More recently, hes embraced a law and order message aimed nationally at white suburban and rural voters who may be concerned by protests that have sometimes become violent. Thats especially true in Minnesota, where the May killing of George Floyd by a police officer sparked a national reckoning on racism.

I pray for 2 really important things to happen in MN: Trump takes MN handily and Minnesota rids the nation of that perv Muslim terrorist, Ilan Omar!
—I said nothing about “fighters”-
-Coleman had the election won until “late” ballot boxes kept showing up which miraculously gave the election to Al Franken—
“I remember Norm Coleman very well.”
I remember how elated I was at Coleman winning the Senate seat back in ‘02.
But I can tell you how and why Coleman lost in 2008. He had six years to get ready for re-election. During those six years, he was all but invisible in Minnesota. You had no idea what he was doing in the Senate. At the time, I could tell you what Senators like Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn were involved with - but not Coleman.
We can all talk about what an empty pants suit Amy Klobuchar is - but here’s the bottom line. She was out there - photo ops, lots of PR events too. For example, getting a WWII veteran the Silver Star he wasn’t awarded earlier. Coleman never did any of that.
And to make matters worse, his re-election campaign was BS. he had nothing to run on. No accomplishments of any note. All he could do was run TV ads that basically said “Vote For Me - At Least I’m Not Al Franken”.
That race never should have been that close. NEVER!
Waiting for some hack judge in Minnesota to extend the voting deadline for a week or two. However long it takes for the democrats to manufacture enough votes to carry the state. I have a queasy feeling about this.
It’s all about fighters.
Norm Coleman fought the recounts in the courts, up to a point. There is no way Trump is going to sit idly by and allow Slow Joe to keep manufacturing votes until he won.
Again, Trump is not Norm Coleman. He will never accept the results of such a blatant theft. He also happens to be President with all the federal resources including AG Barr available to him.
One of the interesting things about Trumps 2016 upset win was the magnitude of the looming split between the
popular vote and the electoral votes even as all the signs were there. It was obvious in the immediate aftermath that:
<><> key swing states in the Midwest were under-polled;
<><> polls were undercounting whites without college degrees;
<><> and no poll exposed the obvious——Trump was closing in on Hillary in key states of Mich, and PA.
“Trump and Biden hit unlikely battleground state of Minnesota”
right, AP, you wish ... just wait until Trump take “unlikely” Minnesota in a landslide!
—that’s my fear everywhere there is a Demo AG and compliant judges—

I have got news for the AP, there are plenty of folks in urban centers who like law and order, too, <<
ap ALSO will be SHOCKED to learn some of the coloreds like them some law and order, too. I know that punctures the ap staff’s racist stereotype of non whites.
I see you took your life in your hands last night to get a pic of little Somalia.
