Researchers have discovered the molecule phosphine in the atmosphere of Venus.
The molecule indicates that life may exist in the acidic clouds high above our sister planet.
The discovery of phosphine in the Venusian atmosphere could signal a rejuvenated interest in the planet, which has long been ignored in favor of other locales in the solar system.
A mystery lurks in the clouds high above the stifling surface of our nearest planetary neighbor, Venus. Researchers have announced they've found traces of phosphine, a molecule potentially generated by living things, in the planet's clouds.
Planetary scientists have long speculated that Venus's cloudy atmosphere could harbor life. The surface of Venus is inhospitable, with surface temperatures exceeding 800 degrees Fahrenheit. No probe sent to the planetand there have been severalhas survived for longer than a few hours. But the planet's atmosphere, which is composed of plush layers of sulfuric acid clouds, may present a unique cradle for burgeoning lifeforms.
"We know that the molecule phosphine is a biomarker on Earth," astronomer Jane Greave, of Cardiff University in Wales, said in a pre-recorded statement released by the Royal Astronomical Society. "It's been suggested that there are possible habitats in the cloud decks of Venus, so somewhere where little lifeforms could live."
To be clear, this latest discovery doesn't explicitly confirm the existence of life on another world, but it's the closest we've ever come. The researchers, who published their findings today in the journals Nature Astronomy and Astrobiology, say the only explanations for the molecule are it's either being produced by a living thing, or it's generated through some chemical process currently unknown to science.

Why do evolutionists think that life anywhere off-earth is such a “proof” of their theories about G_d, life, the universe and everything?
Nowhere in the Bible I read says that G_d put life ONLY on Earth...
THAT was impressive. :^)
...a colorless, flammable, toxic gas...
Thanks a fool in paradise.

BTW, the name "Venus" is white oppressive colonialist, from now the planet will be known as Afrodietee..
Produced on other planets....no life there. On venus....oh life is there....did they test for other molecules? Can life live in the sulfuric clouds of venus? Wouldnt the phosphine fall to the planet
..or fly out of the atmosphere? Such hopeful speculation.is o2 and nh3 and co2 present? How about ch4? Dipeptides, aminoacids, etc?
Sounds like a feeler for funding.
Phosphine is only toxic if you’re an oxygen breather. These beasties will be anaerobic.

Quite possibly, it is exit only and she ain't coming back.
Don't worry. The postage would bankrupt them.
LOL, great episode. The friendly counter man at the diner!
Interesting, but of no use to us. Surface temperatures of 800-900 degrees preclude any colonization.

this is older but relevant re life in the atmosphere

obviously I this interesting, thanks
they may well hope for funding.
did you read all the source material or just popular mechanics? see my post above. would be interested in your detailed criticism of their methodology.
Some of the music is now available here. I ordered two copies. One to open and rip. The other just in case it becomes a valuable collector’s item (lol).

I watched it as a kid and every so often catch some on YT.
Some of it is MST3K caliber but I love it anyway. Give me my cheesy 70s TV! Double that for QM shows.
Now only if Rockford would ever come out. That would be at least a 4 disc set I would think. I found and copied homemade compilations on YT.
I used to like McMillan and Wife. Once-in-a-while I catch one on an obscure tv channel.
I’ve got the boxed set.
Every now and then, I will run a few episodes.
All those shows had more character than the junk of today.
I found a 22 disc set of the Rockford files at the thrift store - $12.99! I think 2 of the discs were not useable. I watched them all in short order. Now debating to mail them off to my brother. Or watch them again!?
Phosphine? Can we use it to clean my dishes and clothes?
I have all the DVDS of Rockford.
A great series.
Episodes with Angel were among the best.
