I can see how it should be frowned upon to arrest an actual candidate. It would put a real damper on a campaign if, let’s say, Joe Biden were frog-marched to a jail cell in October. That’s probably not OK.
But let’s look at Comey. He’s a traitorous crook. If we arrest him, that somehow has a real impact on Joe Biden’s campaign?? What an interesting statement that is. Would the media like to explain how Comey’s crimes implicate Joe Biden?

Comey was fired for conspiring against the incoming President. The election was already over. He was also fired on Rosenstein’s recommendation for arrogating on himself the job of the US Attorney’s office, making decisions whether or not to prosecute based on his investigation. They asked him about the “interim report” again and he specifically said that he never said that. Maybe he said something else later, but to my present knowledge, this is another lie. So, they want him arrested for doing something he has not done and said he wasn’t going to do. Typical.

As far as I know, as Attorney General, Barr has approval authority over the protocols used in the DOJ. He can change or ignore them. Comey had no such authority.
