FROM ONE MEAN MOM
We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too. Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less. We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do. She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds. Then, life was really tough! Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. Everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13
.we had to wait until we were 16. Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property, or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault. We never got drunk, took up smoking, stayed out all night, or a million other things other kids did. Sundays were reserved for church, and we never missed once. We knew better than to ask to spend the night with a friend on Saturdays. Now that we have left home, we are all God-fearing, educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was. I think that is what's wrong with the world today...it just doesn't have enough mean moms anymore.

I checked again a few minutes after my last post and it was showing. I’m a little behind real time because I went to the beginning.
We had several quiet years as far as hurricanes go. Looks like the cycle is swinging back to busy for a while. Just the way it works and there isn’t anything we can do about it except be ready.
You are lucky to be spoiled with those homemade rolls every day. I love them but I’m not a “kitchen goddess” and don’t care for baking much at all. Hubby’s fine with meat n a grill but anything in the kitchen ...nope.
So no homemade rolls here. *sigh*
You eat the dough? 8-0

Tomorrow is also the Forefeast of the Universal Exaltation of the Holy and Life-Giving Cross (aka "Holy Cross Day" on Western calendars) which is celebrated on September 14.
The forefeast has its own, unique, once-a-year hymn which really hits home with the proximity to September 11:
The life-giving Cross of Your goodness,
which we the unworthy have from You as a gift,
we present to You, O Lord, as an intercessor.
Save our leaders and our nation and keep them in peace,
through the Theotokos,
O only One who loves humanity.

I do eat the dough. I love dough. Cookie dough, roll dough, cake dough. I always have. Just a bite or two.
My hubby didn’t cook much till a few years ago. He is now the mad sceientist of the kitchen. Some of his concoctions I wouldn’t touch, but he works magic with rolls and bread.

I’ve known a few people who like to eat dough but I never understood the attraction. LOL! But hey, life would be mighty boring if we were all alike. :-)
I don’t see Hubby ever having any interest in cooking other than on the grill. Heating a can of soup or popping an occasional TV dinner into the microwave is about as far as he’ll go.

Hubby’s dad cooked nothing and his mom...whom I loved to peices...was a HORRIBLE cook. I don’t know who he got this from. LOL! But, since I hate doing it, it’s great he likes it.

I never knew my F-I-L but I doubt he ever cooked. My M-I-L passed away shortly after we started seeing each other so I never got to enjoy any of her cooking, which I’ve heard was excellent.
I don’t like to cook but if we’re gonna eat, I gotsta do it. LOL

I reckon I did. LOL That’s the way the cookie crumbles.
You’d better be fast asleep by now. You don’t want to embarrass yourself in church tomorrow by nodding off.
I hope it’s another fun day for y’all.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))
Was it dry enough to head out with Gizmo yesterday? It looked a bit soggy over your way for a while.

Well, we had a great visit to the lake yesterday. I think it's drying up some. Here are all the pics from yesterday.

Gizmo obviously had a grand time. LOL Bet you were tuckered out after being dragged all over the place.
The rain almost made it here but not quite. We might get a little bit later today if we’re lucky. We need it.
